Print-making artist Kristin Becker to have work featured at Thiel College gallery

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announces printmaker Kristin Becker will exhibit her work that examines the meaning and visual form of written and printed texts at Thiel College’s Weyers-Sampson Gallery starting Wednesday and running through April 3.

Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hours on Tuesday and Thursday are from 10 a.m. to noon and 2:30 to 4 p.m. The gallery will be closed from March 7-15.

According to the artist, ‘Language Pieces’ works are inspired by the process of word play and/or the act of letter-writing. Becker said she begins each piece with a fragment of intriguing text or a written message to a person who is important in her life. Using the text as inspiration, she creates a visual manifestation of the idea using printmaking, collage and book arts media. The goal is to make an object of communication that is visually and verbally enticing for a public audience, though its roots may be private or personal.

Becker’s work has been exhibited at academic galleries throughout the United States, as well as in Italy, and was included in the New Prints, New Narratives exhibition at the International Print Center, New York in summer 2013. She teaches graphic design in the Digital Technology & Culture Program in the English Department at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash. She holds a M.F.A. in Printmaking from Indiana University, Bloomington and a B.F.A. in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design.
