GREENVILLE, Pa.-- More than 200 Thiel College students, faculty and staff members took part in Fresh Check Day on Oct. 2, engaging in open conversations about mental health and suicide prevention during the College’s Common Hour.
Faculty and staff members joined 193 students at the event, organized by the Counseling Center, aimed to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health while equipping participants with tools to support peers who may be struggling.
More than 30 volunteers ran and supported the nine interactive booths, that included therapy animals, sweets from “The Candy Bar,” and prize-drawings.
Fresh Check Day is a national program designed to bring mental health promotion and suicide prevention to college campuses in a positive, community-focused setting. The Common Hour is a Thiel tradition—held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m.—where no classes, practices or meetings are scheduled so the campus community can participate in programing and events.
The Counseling Center staff said it was grateful to the many volunteers whose support made the event possible.
