Leonard named vice president for college advancement

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College announced recently that Roberta Leonard has been appointed to the position of vice president for college advancement, effective Nov. 1.

“Roberta’s remarkable talent for relationship-building has broadened and deepened the College’s stakeholder groups,” President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., said. “She understands the importance of celebrating the accomplishments of students, faculty and alumni, and she has a proven track record of attracting external support to the College. I am confident Roberta will bring effective leadership as vice president for college advancement. Building on the success of the Thiel 2016 Campaign, she will meet and—no doubt—exceed new goals as we together advance the College.”

Over the past 15 years, Leonard held several positions in College Advancement, including director of corporate, foundation, and government support; executive director of donor services; and executive director of the Capital Campaign. Last spring, she was appointed interim vice president for college advancement. In that role, she oversaw the Thiel 2016 Campaign as it surpassed its $60 million goal, and supported the College’s transition to Traverso, who took office Aug. 1, 2016.

“I am proud and honored to work at an institution that makes a difference in the lives of the young men and women who attend,” Leonard said. “I look forward to working with President Traverso, colleagues, alumni and friends to advance the mission of this wonderful place.”

Recently, Leonard was also named to the Thrivent Fellows Program. The program is a rigorous 12-month executive fellowship designed to develop the leadership capacity of staff members at colleges and universities affiliated with the Lutheran church. Leonard received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Pittsburgh, and joined Thiel College in 2001.
