Kappa Sigma seesaws 72 hours to raise money for Military Heroes Campaign

GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Thiel College chapter of Kappa Sigma began today the 23rd annual Kappa Sigma See-Saw-A-Thon to raise money for the Military Heroes Campaign. The marathon continues nonstop until noon Sunday, Oct. 8.

Members of the fraternity will be collecting donations as they ride a 25-foot-long metal seesaw on the lawn near the College’s Howard Miller Student Center for 72 consecutive hours.

“All our sororities and fraternities host several programs during the academic year and raise thousands of dollars for their philanthropies. Kappa Sigma's Annual See-Saw-A-Thon is one of the most notable events on campus, one that the entire community looks forward to,” Director of Student Activities and Involvement Than Oo said. “During the last few years, the size of the fraternity's membership has increased significantly, and as a result, their efforts have achieved a greater impact toward the Military Heroes Campaign.”

Created in 2007, the Military Heroes Campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the United States and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated more than $1 million to non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of servicemen and women and those wounded in combat.

Charitable service is an important part of the mission of each fraternity and sorority at Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania. Annually, Greek fundraising efforts donate thousands of dollars to charities such as the American Red Cross, Autism Speaks, the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, Adopt-A-Highway and many others.
