GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Former Professor of Education Mary Reames will join 10 current Thiel College faculty and staff members as honorees for the College’s annual Founders’ Day celebration on Thursday, February 3.
Reames was selected to be recognized as the 2022 recipient of the Louis and Barbara Thiel Distinguished Service Award for her incredible service to the College and community. She previously worked for 25 years in the Jamestown Area School District before coming to Thiel. Reames taught at the College in the Department of Education from 2006 to 2019 and was awarded as a lecturer of education by the National Society of Leadership and Success in 2018.
“Mary is a lifelong educator,” said Vice President for College Advancement Roberta Leonard. “She has generationally impacted the education that children receive in our area, both as a teacher and in her work preparing teachers. Beyond that, Mary is one of the few people I know who I can say is truly a community activist. She has done work for Riverside Park, been on the school board, and has been involved with Relay for Life. She is also one of the most fun people I know. She is a committed mom and a loving grandma. In everything she does, she brings not only passion but also her quick wit and laughter.”
The Louis and Barbara Thiel Distinguished Service Award is given annually to individuals who demonstrate exemplary character, continuity of leadership, and long-term service to Greenville and the surrounding community. The recipients must show a commitment to the common good above private interests. The award is named after Louis and Barbara Thiel, whose generosity made possible the founding of Thiel College in 1866.
In addition to the Barbara and Louis Thiel recognition, the Founders’ Day celebration will highlight the contributions of Thiel College employees. Each of the following staff and faculty members will be honored individually within their departments.
