GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Seniors Kayla Cyphert, of Canfield, Ohio, and Shane Martin, of Allison Park, Pa., were named Thiel College Students of the Month for November.
Cyphert, a 2012 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, is a communication sciences and disorders major and psychology minor. She will graduate in May 2016. She is president of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and the service honorary society Les Laurier. She is also secretary of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Cyphert is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and the Order of Omega honorary society for leaders in Greek organizations.
After graduation, she plans on getting her doctor of audiology degree.
She is a daughter of Tonya and Jim Cyphert, of Canfield, Ohio.
Martin, a 2011 graduate of Shaler Area High School, is a dual-degree engineering program participant. He will graduate in May 2016 with a B.A. in binary engineering from Thiel College and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Martin is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute (DHI) and received a Thiel College Exemplary Library Research Award. Among the top two percent of students in the Swanson School of Engineering, he is a University of Pittsburgh Scholar. Martin is a 3-2 Engineering Program Transfer Ambassador for Thiel College and Pitt. He is in Alpha Chi—the top academic honorary society at Thiel College—and is the social media manager for the DHI.
After graduation, Martin plans to work in the alternative energy field as an engineering consultant.
He is a son of Barbara and Jeffrey Martin, of Allison Park, Pa.
The Student of the Month is among the most prestigious academic awards Thiel College grants each year.
