Cook, Macurak, Hutton earn April Student of the Month honors

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announces Cassandra Cook, of Moon Township, Pa., Timothy Hutton, of Cranberry Township, Pa., and Zachary Macurak, of Bethel Park, Pa. as students of the month for April 2015.

Cook is a senior biology/pre-medicine major. She has earned Dean’s List recognition seven consecutive times and is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute, Beta Beta Beta biology honor society, Pi Nu Epsilon honorary music fraternity, Sigma Tau Delta English honor society, Les Lauriers senior honor society, and Order of Omega Greek leadership society. Additionally, she is a member of Chi Omega fraternity, the Tomcat Marching Pride band, and is a founding member of Winterguard. Cook participates in many service activities sponsored by the College and volunteers at hospitals in the Pittsburgh area during her summer breaks. After graduation, she plans to take a year to gain experience in the medical field and then apply to medical school for the fall of 2016.

Cook, a 2011 graduate of Moon Area High School, is the daughter of Michael and Christine New, of Moon Township, Pa.

Hutton is a senior conservation biology major. He has earned Dean’s List recognition seven straight semesters and is a member Order of Omega Greek leadership society, Les Lauriers senior honor society, Pi Nu Epsilon music honor society, and Beta Beta Beta biology honor society. He is a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Thiel Choir, chamber ensemble, marching band, concert band, and Thiel Players. Additionally, he volunteers at Together for Retarded Youth (Try) camp during his summer breaks. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in zoo keeping, animal husbandry, and animal training.

Hutton, a 2011 graduate of Seneca Valley High School, is the son of Richard and Christina Hutton, of Cranberry Township, Pa.

Macurak is a senior accounting and business administration – finance major. He has been named to the Dean’s list seven consecutive semesters and is a member of the Chi Eta Sigma honorary commerce society. He is the recipient of 2014-15 PICPA Outstanding Senior Award and is a SI leader for intermediate accounting. Additionally he is a member of the lacrosse team.

Macurak, a 2011 graduate of Bethel Park Senior High School, is the son of the Sue Macurak, of Bethel Park, Pa. and the late Greg Macurak.

The Student of the Month is among the most prestigious academic awards Thiel College grants each year.
