GREENVILLE, Pa.—“Forever Gold” begins Friday with several high-profile events, including a special campus-wide announcement in the morning and a black tie optional gala later in the evening to commemorate the day.
“Homecoming is the perfect time and place for Thiel College President Troy D. VanAken to reveal one of the biggest initiatives in the College’s history,” Director of Alumni Relations Kraig R. Smith ’12 said. “He will make that announcement first to the campus community in the morning and then will celebrate that news later in the evening with a one-of-a-kind black tie event for friends and alumni.”
The formal Thiel 2016 Gala at 7 p.m. Friday is just one of the many activities scheduled throughout the weekend. Homecoming 2015 starts Friday morning with alumni registration and hospitality events. The festivities continue through the day with student and alumni networking events, receptions and culminate with a student pep rally and bonfire.
A full slate of events is scheduled for Saturday. The alumni awards ceremony is at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. That event honors Frank Maenpa, Ph.D. ’69, Paul Stibich ’05, Amanda (Rooney) Stierli ’07 and Phi Theta Phi alumni. The Phi Theta Phi alumni are being recognized for their efforts to recolonize the local fraternity in 2010 and continue the annual Walk-A-Thon for the Free Care Fund at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital. Members of the fraternity have raised more than $1.2 million since the walk’s inception in 1968.
The parade begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and will have a short detour around the street closure in downtown Greenville, but will mostly follow the traditional route. Various reunions, the Tomcat Kids Zone, football game and marching band performance also occur Saturday.
