GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Fraternities and sororities at Thiel College (www.thiel.edu) are holding their annual Greek week competition where each chapter promotes unity through friendly competition at events each day of the week. The western Pennsylvania college has three national fraternities (Delta Sigma Phi, Kappa Sigma and Sigma Phi Epsilon), four national sororities (Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, Sigma Kappa and Zeta Tau Alpha) and one local fraternity (Phi Theta Phi).
“We host Greek Week annually to celebrate our fraternity and sorority community, highlighting the energy, creativity, and talent of our members,” Director of Student Activities and Involvement Than Oo said. “The events also serve to promote unity between the chapters and within each organization through friendly competition. The experience is also entertaining for our non-affiliated students to watch.”
More than a quarter of Thiel College’s approximately 900 students are involved with the Greek community. According to Oo, every member of the eight organizations participates in Greek Week events and non-affiliated students are always present as spectators with each event attracting about 300 students. Collectively, the Greek community at Thiel College raises more than $50,000 during the academic year for various causes including Alzheimer’s, autism and breast cancer research as well as other philanthropic causes including Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Military Heroes and the Red Cross through hundreds of student volunteer hours.
