GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College marked the achievements of its highest achieving accepted academic students at the inaugural Academic Distinction Celebration at the Lutheran Heritage Room in the Howard Miller Student Center on campus Friday evening.
About 38 high-achieving students joined more than 100 students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the college in the Academic Distinction Celebration in the afternoon.
The ceremony began at 4 p.m. Students heard messages from President Troy D. VanAken, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the College Lynn Franken, Ph.D., honors student Sean Oros and alumni representative Alexandra McClurg, MPAS, PA-C ’12. Students were recognized based on the scholarships they will receive. Students receiving the High Achievers scholarships, President’s scholarships, Dietrich Honors Institute scholarships, Dean’s scholarships and Academic Department scholarships were acknowledged.
The recognition ceremony was followed by a dessert and networking reception with students, faculty, alumni, staff and friends of the college.
The day began with an Accepted Student Visit Day at 10:30 a.m. During the visit day, faculty and staff members met with more than 50 high school seniors and their family. The visit day included a buffet lunch, an academic and student activities fair, and panels with current students and parents’ council panel.
