On Oct 17, Jon Welsh, from the Erie, Pa. Veterans Affairs Hospital, spoke at the Health Professions Institute’s seminar series. Joining the HPI were environmental safety management students. Welsh is the manager of safety and occupational health. He spoke about the safety challenges in a healthcare setting and how they differ from other industries. Coincidentally, Welsh’s first job out of graduate school was teaching biology at Thiel College.
“I truly enjoyed Jon Welsh’s entire presentation because I learned a substantial amount of information regarding the Erie VA Medical Center and his healthcare career path. My favorite part of Jon Welsh’s presentation was his advice to say, ‘yes’ more often, as saying yes may open up new doors and opportunities for your life and career.”—Jacqueline Galford ’21
“He mentioned that most opportunities have led him to more opportunities. I feel like this is an important lesson in today’s world that has a new mentality of ‘It is OK to say no.’ Opportunities do not just arise from nowhere, and they often lead to somewhere, even if it isn’t somewhere you planned to end up.”—Shyloh McTighe ’22
