The Lectern

Fall 2002 Lectern

The Lectern, Thiel's undergraduate research review, released its second issue at the Thiel Forum Special Edition on Thursday, September 22. The new issue is available here: https://thelectern.org/issue-2-fall-2022/

The Lectern is sponsored by the Dietrich Honors Institute. Dr. Sheila Farr is the faculty advisor. This year's editors-in-chief were Jade Rhodes '23 and Tess Cadman '23. Serving on the editorial board were: Matt Beuermann ’23, Emily Irons '24, Janelle Mudry '23, Samantha Reid '24, Hannah Stoughton '25, Virginia Riddle '25, Madeleine White '25, and Morgan Wood '23.

This year's issue features ten articles and research posters from a variety of disciplines. Submissions were peer reviewed by members of the editorial board in a double-blind process, in line with professional academic journals. The works are published with a Creative Commons license, meaning they can be cited by other authors.

At Thursday's forum, the student editors discussed the publication process and the benefits of participating in The Lectern. They honed research and writing skills, gained greater understanding of the research process, and learned how to lead and work within an effective team.

"I am so proud of the student editors and authors at The Lectern. Under the gifted leadership of Dr. Farr, They have produced an excellent journal that maintains the highest standards of undergraduate research. It's a testament to the rich collaboration between students and faculty at Thiel College."
- Dr. Sheila Nowinski, Director of the Dietrich Honors Institute.
