    United States History to 1877
    This course consists of a survey of the history of the United States from the age of exploration to the end of post-Civil War reconstruction era, emphasizing major political, social, economic, and cultural issues and traditions. Topics to be considered include colonial origins, national development, sectional antagonisms, social patterns, civil war, and reconstruction.

    United States History since 1877
    This course consists of a survey of the history of the United States from the end of the reconstruction period to the present, emphasizing major political, social, economic, and cultural traditions. Topics to be considered include the growth of a predominantly urban-industrial society, the expanded role of government, increased involvement in world affairs, and contemporary society and culture.

    Turning Points in History
    This thematic course analyzes "turning points" in history. Definitions, causes, and consequences of "turning points" will be considered. Historical and geographical scope varies.

    Native American History
    A study of the Native civilizations of the United States from prehistoric to modern times with emphasis on the period since 1600. The study will include an examination of Native American cultures and their historical contributions, the impact upon those cultures of the development and expansion of the United States, and contemporary Native American experiences.

    African-American History to 1877
    This course introduces students to Black history from the introduction of forced African labor in North America to Reconstruction. The course considers African origins, the middle passage, the growth of free and enslaved communities, and the end of slavery. Particular attention is paid to Black cultural development and contributions to American society.

    African-American History from 1877
    This course introduces students to Black history from the Redemption Era to the present. The course considers the rise of Jim Crow laws, legalized segregation, the Great Migration, the rise of the Civil Rights movement, and present-day Black society. Particular attention is paid to Black cultural development and contributions to American society.

    Sports in American History
    This course examines the history of sporting culture in American history from the colonial era to the 21st century. This class is not a sports trivia class and no prior knowledge of the rules for various sports is needed. Themes in the course include the intersection of sports and race, gender, class, amateurism, international politics, imperialism, and government politics. The main goal of this course is to better understand American history through sporting culture. We will also study how developments in American society influenced sporting culture.
