    About English – Secondary Education

    Thiel College’s Secondary Education program is a cooperative program offered through the Department of English and the Department of Education. This joint venture includes a variety of courses in professional writing, literature, education foundations, mentoring, effective instructional practices and curriculum, instruction and assessment.

    English - Secondary Education Objectives

    At Thiel College, the bachelor’s degree courses in English and secondary education prepare students to:

    • Complete field and student teaching experiences and complete the PRAXIS exam.
    • Analyze, interpret, and evaluate various forms of literary texts.
    • Use Standard American English, speak and write clearly and effectively in a variety of genres.
    • Demonstrate familiarity with literature in a historical and cultural context.
    • Master effective communication in oral and written forms in the field.
    • Cultivate interpersonal skills and learn to be a valuable member of a team.
