    Svetlana V. Kulikova earned the Ph.D. in mass communication and public affairs from Louisiana State University in 2008. From 2008 to 2013, she was assistant professor of international communication in the Department of Communication at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Before her current appointment as a visiting professor at Thiel College, Prof. Kulikova established and managed Brave New Russian World, a literary agency helping contemporary Russian dissident writers translate and publish their works in English. She also holds an M.A. degree (1995) in political science from Central European University (Budapest, Hungary), and an M.S. degree (1997) in journalism and mass communication from Kansas State University. Prof. Kulikova also was at the American University of Central Asia (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan) for seven years, as a mass communication instructor, chair of the Journalism Department, and director of the Public Relations Office. Her research interests include international public relations, press freedom and democratization in post-communist transitions, and the role of new media in social movements and revolutions.
