CLASS AGENT

The Class Agent program is a vital link between Thiel College and its alumni. The person (or persons) volunteering for this position agree(s) to write a minimum of two letters per year to members of your class.

The agent will receive information from the alumni office approximately six times a year in the form of a newsletter, the Thiel Update, as well as information sent to the alumni office from classmates. Information sent directly to the class agent should also be included. The alumni office will handle all printing and distribution of the letters.

In addition, class agents are encouraged to support the aims and purposes of the Thiel College Alumni Association, the regular support of the annual fund, and (as individual finances permit) other college initiatives.

Because of email, fax, and telephone, the Class Agent can live anywhere and still serve effectively.

ALUMNI BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Alumni Board of Directors is a group of 24 members who serve 3-year terms. Members of the Board are expected to be enthusiastic advocates of Thiel College and its alumni association, effective communicators of our mission, and play an integral role in administering and managing the Alumni Association. Duties include the promotion of the Annual Fund and other initiatives, promotion and support of alumni-sponsored events, co-operation with the Board of Trustees in matters related to overall management and future development of the College, support for the admissions and career services efforts of the college, and selection of recipients of various alumni awards.

As a board member, you will be expected to:

• attend three of the four meetings each year (usually August/September, Homecoming, February and April/May
• serve on one of five standing committees (admissions, career services, development, communication, or nominations & awards)
• represent the interests of alumni to the college as well as being an advocate of the college to the alumni
• participate in the annual fund (and other fundraising initiatives as your resources allow.)

ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE
Staff Liaison: Nicole Hills
This committee will work closely with an admissions representative to explore ways alumni can assist in identifying and cultivating potential students. More specifically, this committee will assist in identifying alumni who will represent the college in their community high schools, host area meetings or gatherings for prospective students from their areas, host "send-off" gatherings for new students from their areas, and assist with on-campus events. These tasks would be accomplished with the assistance of the College's Advancement and Admissions Departments.

Admissions/Recruiting:

• Identify prospective students
• Represent Thiel at college fairs
• Provide business cards for Thiel "Brag Books"
• Encourage other alumni to provide business cards

DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Staff Liaison: Mario Marini '91  or Kelly Bailey

This committee will work closely with the Director of the Annual Fund to assist with the coordination and implementation of all fundraising programs. The committee will be involved with soliciting members of the Alumni Board for the Annual Fund. The committee will also be asked to identify prospective donors. This may involve targeted letter writing and/or phone calling.

Annual Fund:

• Assist with Phonathons in Spring and Fall
• Help identify prospective donors
• Targeted letter writing

CAREER SERVICES COMMITTEE
Staff Liaison: Kateri Linn

Dr. Amy Suggars '82 and Tom Newpher '00

This committee will work closely with a representative from the Career Center. This committee will help in the planning of career events such as career fairs and career roadshows. This committee can also help identify alumni who would be willing to offer internships, career counseling and/or employment opportunities to Thiel students.

Career Services:

• Give career advice to students
• Serve as a guest lecturer in a classroom
• Sponsor student internships
• Assist with job placement for Thiel graduates

COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE
Staff Liaison:  Joyce Carr  or   Jennie Travaglini

The goal of this committee is to increase communication and involvement between the college and the alumni.

This committee will work closely with the Director of Alumni Services to help plan for traditional alumni events (Homecoming, Honor Circle Weekend), as well as creating new programming ideas and events for alumni and seniors.

In many cases, the committee will work in conjunction with other campus offices such as the Career Center or the Advancement Office to coordinate events. Events may be targeted (by class, geographic area, etc.) and will include both on- and off-campus activities.

Alumni Events:

• Assist with Homecoming, Honor Circle Weekend, and other alumni events on campus
• Host/assist with regional alumni events in your area
• Serve on reunion committee

NOMINATIONS AND AWARDS COMMITTEE
Staff Liaison: Lynn Miller McClimans '79

The Nominations and Awards Committee is responsible for the selection of two groups of alumni: those for service on the alumni board and those whose exemplary career accomplishments and service to their alma mater are worthy of recognition.

Members of the Alumni Board of Directors are nominated for a three-year term with the possibility of serving an additional three years. Distinguished Alumni and Service to Thiel awardees are recognized at Homecoming each year, along with the recipient of the Young Alumni award, an alumna/us who has been graduated within the past ten years and has been nominated by the faculty.

Nominations for either the alumni board or for recognition as distinguished alumni or for their service to Thiel College can be made by any alumnus of the institution via the forms available on the website or by writing a letter of nomination to the Nominations and Awards Committee, Thiel Alumni Association, Thiel College, 75 College Avenue, Greenville PA 16125.
