Buffalo Hunt Held at Thiel
On Feb. 3, President VanAken initiated a “Buffalo Hunt” in anticipation of the Tomcats men’s & women’s basketball games against the visiting Bethany Bison. He issued “Buffalo Hunting Permits” to coaches Angie Zeuch and Tim Loomis for their squads. As leader of the hunt, he donned a buffalo skin and took his bow out across campus. The men’s team beat their rivals by two points (86-84) while the women fell by a mere three points (52-55). In honor of the great turnout at the games, the president challenged five students to a buffalo wing eating contest on Feb. 5.

Alumni Recruitment Outreach

As a valued graduate of Thiel College, you can help our recruiting efforts by sharing your Thiel experience with prospective students and families.
To assist in our recruiting efforts, we are reaching out to our active alumni. There are many different ways you can assist us in recruiting efforts, such as:
- Reaching out to current and/or prospective students and offering advice on making the most of their time at college;
- Attending a college fair in your area, or representing your area of study at a campus event;
- Notifying us of students you think would be great candidates for Thiel.
The admissions office feels that taking the opportunity to talk with prospective students about your experiences at Thiel will allow them to make the best informed decision when deciding what college to attend. Alumni interested in helping out admissions should contact Lauren Byers (lbyers@thiel.edu).

Archives Photo IDs Needed

The Thiel Archives is home to thousands of unidentified photos, but you can help us sort them out. Click here to view these photos. E-mail John Hauser if you can put a name to a face. As pictures are indentified, they will be replaced so check back frequently. Photos will range from the 1940s through the 1980s. Once photos are labeled, they will be archived on the Web site if you'd like to take a look at snapshots from Thiel's history.

President’s Challenge
Graduates of Thiel College from 1985-2009 are invited to participate in the new President’s Challenge. It’s simple—the class with the highest giving percentage rate among all classes each fiscal year will win the President’s Challenge Cup! The inaugural challenge began July 1, 2009, so if you haven’t already given to the Thiel Fund this year, it’s not too late (or too early) to put your class in the lead. Representatives from the winning class will be recognized during the 2010 Homecoming celebration. The winning class year will be engraved on the cup, which will reside in a place of honor in Roth Hall. In addition, a photo of the winning class will be featured in The Bell, Thiel’s alumni magazine. Click here to see how your class ranks in the standings!

Each caller is a current Thiel College student and is excited to fill you in on all the newest happenings at Thiel! We are pleased to announce that for every new donor that makes a pledge commitment during Phonathon, it will be matched until we reach $30,000 due to the generosity of an anonymous donor. All donations are appreciated as we work to reach our $1 million goal by June 30.
