1930s
OLIVE (FRITZ) BISHOP ’38 lives in Greenville, Pa. She has two children, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
FRANCES (LEYSHON) SIMPSON ’38 lives in Novi, Mich., and is a retired school teacher. Simpson loves politics, sports and spending time with her family. She writes, “I have many fond memories of my days at Thiel.”
1940s
EVELYN (SHEPARD) SEKULA ’42 lives at a retirement community in Carmichael, Calif. She spends her time reading to others, taking exercise classes and enjoying the many activities offered there. Sekula has five children. She writes that “VIVIAN (LONCOSKE LOWTHER ’35)’s alumni letters are an inspiration.”
CHARLES ’43 and AGNES (McDONALD) PETERSON ’43 live in Erie, Pa. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They have three children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
DORIS (PILGRAM) FISHER ’46 is a retired secretary for CB&I. She and her husband, Jack, have traveled the world, including living in Germany and England, for three years each. They currently reside on Skidaway Island, off the coast of Savannah, Ga. They have two grown children.
GUY THIGPEN ’49, H’78 joined fellow Delta Sigma Phi members for a golf outing during Thiel’s Homecoming celebration on October 2. He writes, “Brother Sigs forever!”
1950s
JOHN BRIGHT ’50 came to Thiel on the G.I. Bill after serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He played football for the Tomcats and will always remember his coach, Jack Stoeber. Bright enjoys living in the Chicago area with his wife and five grandchildren.
TOM HODGE’50 and JEAN (BARTHOLOMEW) HODGE ’50 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June 2008. They had a week-long celebration in Chautauqua, N.Y., with their family, including their six children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Tom was recently awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for service in Rotary Club and Greenville community.
CAROLYN (HAGEL) WICKERHAM ’52 lives in Bemus Point, N.Y. She has four children, THOMAS ’75, BETH ’76, MARK ’80 and AMY ’83. Recently, she took her second mission trip to Honduras, where she taught the local women homemaking skills.
ROBERT WETZLER ’54 received his 43rd Composer Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. He lives in Minneapolis, Minn.
BAILEY HERRINGTON ’55 is retired and living with wife, Karen Dumont, in Broadview Heights, Ohio.
DR. THOMAS MEEK ’57 is a neurosurgeon in Odessa, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Marilyn. Meek would like to hear from fellow Thiel alums from the Classes of 1955 to 1957.
DR. FRED J. BRENNER ’58 is a professor of biology at Grove City College, Pa. He recently presented a research paper at a joint symposium of the American Society for Mining and Reclamation and Billings (Mont.) Land Reclamation. Brenner also was re-elected as co-chairman of the Forestry and Wildlife Technical Division of the American Society for Mining and Reclamation. He is a certified senior ecologist and wildlife biologist.
RICHARD “DICK” MAMAJEK ’58 was recently inducted into the Minor Pro Football Hall of Fame in Pittsburgh. During his years at Thiel, he earned four varsity letters and was co-captain of the team during the 1957 season.
REV. WILLIAM SOWERS ’58 helped coordinate the very first CROP Walk for the Hungry in 1970. Forty years and more than $1 million dollars later, he is still going strong and the walk has become a national event. Sowers and his wife, Bonnie, live in York, Pa.
ERNEST ’59 and JOANN (BIRO) CRIST ’59 celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 23, 2009, with a family dinner and a five-day trip, which was a gift from their family. The Crists live in Farrell, Pa.
TOM LERCH ’59 is a guide on the Interurban Train Museum in Plano, Texas, where he lives, and is a chaplain’s assistant at a nearby hospital. Lerch enjoys swimming, playing basketball and singing in the local choir. He and his “high school sweetheart,” BECKY (ROGERS) JANOW ’61, attended his 50-year reunion at Thiel’s Homecoming in October.
JANET (HAHNE) McCUTCHEON ’59 worked in the business office of Thiel College for 30 years until she retired in 2004. She and her husband, John, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 11, 2009. The McCutcheons live in Greenville, Pa., and they have three children, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
DIANE (GILLESPIE) ROGERS ’59 and JERRY ROGERS ’60 celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 6, 2009, by taking a cruise with their children and their children’s spouses. Diane retired from working at Kennesaw State University and Jerry retired from working at Columbia Chemical Company. They live in Powder Springs, Ga.
STANLEY ’59 and ROSALYN (SHEASLEY) SCHUBEL ’60 celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2009, by attending a celebratory dinner in the Poconos. Their children and grandchildren presented them with a trip to Hawaii. The couple met while attending Thiel.
1960s
BETH (GESLER) CALDWELL ’60 lives with her husband, David, in Novato, Calif. They have two sons and two grandchildren. Retired, Caldwell enjoys singing in the choir, volunteering at the Social Services Agency and visiting her grandchildren in Arizona. She likes receiving news of the College and friends from her days at Thiel.
PAT (TOTZKE) KULP ’60 and her husband, Rod, live in East Brunswick, N.J. where Kulp has been a children’s aide. She writes that she misses Pennsylvania for its people and old neighborhoods, but not its traffic or hills. She enjoys the class letters written by LETHA (MORTON) ADELMAN ’61.
REV. DR. CLYDE A. MCGEE ’61 has been happily fishing the Shenango River this year for small-mouth bass. He encourages all of his Thiel classmates and friends to “fill the creel” for the Thiel Fund and make the Class of 1961 this year’s leading percentage donor. McGee lives in Akron, Ohio, with his wife, Peggy.
CAROLYN (STINEMAN) SCHROEDER ’61 lives with her husband, Stephen, in Lawrence, Kan. Schroeder is a retired clinical psychologist and professor. Her life is filled with family, friends, gardening and volunteer work including the nonprofit Annie Sullivan Enterprises, Inc., which she and her husband started in 1982. She also is active in the American Psychological Association.
LINDA (SMITH) BELOTE ’62 lives in Hancock, Mich., with her husband, Jim. Linda retired in 2006 and now serves as president of the Copper County Community Arts Council and on the boards of two other local organizations. She continues to visit Ecuador annually and spent a month there in January.
REV. ROLAND ’62 and CAROLYN (HAYS) RAHAM ’63 live in Keystone Heights, Fla. Roland is a retired clergyman and Carolyn is a retired nurse. Roland enjoys RVing, playing Christian music on the piano and woodworking. One of his projects was an altar and baptismal font for a local church. Carolyn is learning Hebrew (both modern and ancient) and is becoming quite a biblical scholar.
CAROL LEVIN ’63 lives in Guilford, Vt., with her husband, Richard Gottlieb. Levin works as a physical therapist for several agencies. They have two children.
NANCY (GILSON) LEYERZAPF ’63 lives in Abilene, Kan. She is a teacher for Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools. She has two children.
DR. NANCY (ROSS) SEDERBERG ’64 lives in Valparaiso, Ind., with her husband, Roger. They are both happily retired and have two children and three grandchildren.
JIM THOMAS ’64 and his wife, Mary Ann, live in Hermitage, Pa., where he is the president of Green Bee Fundraising. He spends his winters playing golf and tennis in Vero Beach, Fla.
CHARLES EDWIN “ED” YATES ’64 is a retired school administrator. He is proud to have a great-niece attending Thiel this year.
JOAN (DAVIS) BURATTI ’67, PINKY (SCHMUCK) BAINTER ’67, SUE (MORRISON) DOWNEY ’67, RACHEL (WINLOCK) BAILDON ’67 and JUDY (DINGFELDER) BASHFORTH ’67 reconnected this summer to reminisce about their days at Thiel College and other life events. Bashforth writes, “It is great to know that our Thiel friendships remain throughout our entire lives.” Members of the group live in various parts of eastern Pennsylvania and western Ohio.
GARY FINCKE ’67 is a professor of English and creative writing at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., where he also lives. A collection of his stories was chosen as a 2009 Book Club Selection by the Lutheran Writers Project. The story, “Sorry I Worried You,” won the Flannery O’Connor Award. Fincke has published 21 books of fiction, poetry and non-fiction.
SALLY (HOFFMAN) DURRANT ’68 lives in Pittsburgh and is a retired educator.
RUSS JOHNSON ’68 lives in Fairview Park, Ohio, with his wife, Cindy. Johnson works at Mental Health Services in Cleveland, Ohio. He writes that it is good to get back to his professional roots after many years of administration and teaching. The couple have three grandchildren.
CONNIE (ANDERSON) OZER ’68 lives in Anchorage, Ala., with her husband, Kerry. They have three sons and two grandchildren. Ozer enjoys volunteering in the community, for which she was recently awarded the Mayor’s Arts Award. She currently serves on two boards, the ACLU of Alaska and the Out North Theater Company.
STEPHANIE (ANTOS) SZAKACH ’68 lives in Sharpsville, Pa., with her husband, Albert. Szakach is a retired school teacher for the Sharon City School District.
J. FRED ’68 and ANN (KNOPP) WINEMAN ’70 live in Greensburg, Pa. Fred is a retired bereavement counselor from Westmoreland (Excela Health) Hospice. Ann retired after 17 years as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Harrold Zion Lutheran Church. The Winemans often visit family in Hood River, Ore.
KAREN (SCHOTT) ZUBROD ’68 lives in Salem, Va., with her husband, George. They have two children. Zubrod is a homemaker.

DOUGLAS DYKSTRA ’70 was appointed chancellor of Windward Community College by the University of Hawaii Board of Regents in July 2009.
SANDRA (GROLOCK) ’70 and DENNIS ERKSA’71 live in Charlottesville, Va. Sandra works part-time as a physical therapist at the University of Virginia Hospital. Dennis works as a graphics finisher at Photoworks. They have two children and one grandchild.
JON MILLS ’70 lives in Elk Grove Village, Ill., with his wife, Debby. He is the assistant vice president at JP Morgan Chase in Chicago, Ill. He works for the Treasury & Securities Services Department supporting U.S. government agency commercial card programs.
DAVID A. JOHNSTON ’71 was named executive director of EIMA, a national nonprofit technical trade association in June 2009. His office is based in Falls Church, Va.
JANET (PRICKETT) MacCARTNEY ’71 is the proud grandmother of two girls, both born in 2008. She is a private tutor and a cultural arts volunteer in Hampton Roads, Va. MacCartney is also a master gardener who designs gardens.
REV. RALPH DUNKIN ’72, H’99 was recently elected to his third term as bishop of the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He and his wife, Teresa, are parents of two adult children and live in Wheeling, W.Va.
VALERIE (FOWLIE) DONOHUE ’73 works in corporate communication at the McGraw-Hill Companies’ corporate headquarters in New York as a group project coordinator. She has two grown daughters and lives in Garden City, N.Y.
CRAIG ’73 and SUSAN (KLINGER) HANRIOT ’75 live in Tustin, Calif. Craig is the owner and CEO of Technical Metal Finishing Company in Burbank, Calif., and Susan retired from teaching in June 2007. They have one daughter.
VICKI (MORRIS) BENION ’74 was named president of the Board of the National Association of College Stores (NACS) in April 2009. NACS is the professional trade association that represents the nation’s $10 billion higher education retailing industry. She is currently the director of Bucknell University Bookstore in Lewisburg, Pa.
DANIEL J. CRAWFORD ’74 lives in Morgantown, W.Va., and works for Sheetz Brothers. He has three grandsons that live with him. Crawford is proud to have lost 76 pounds over the last year and a half and is getting close to his college weight!
JOSEPH F. DAMORE ’74 was recently elected chairman of the Ohio State Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. Damore is president and CEO of Mission Health System. He has served his community and profession through many medical causes and volunteer work. Damore and his wife, Julie, live in Biltmore Lake, N.C.
WILLIAM A. DUNN JR., Ph.D. ’74 was appointed interim chair of the department of anatomy and cell biology at the University of Florida in June 2009. Dunn is also a volunteer leader for the Appalachia Service Project, which builds and repairs homes. He lives in Gainesville, Fla., with his wife, Constance.
JANE (DAVIS) MINTON ’74 and her husband, James, live in Westfield, N.Y. After 30 years as an educator, Minton retired in July 2009, as school counselor at Brighton Central schools in Rochester, N.Y. The Mintons have one daughter.
BARRY ’74 and LINDA (DEAN) OMAN ’75 visited MELINDA (SPAHR) SCHEID ’74 and her husband, Denny, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Others who came along for the visit were Ron and Linda (Dean) Cooper, former Thiel women’s basketball coach.
DAVID TANKOOS ’74 has been working in a private special education school for the last three years. He has two daughters.
PATRICIA (MUCHKO) CURRAN ’75 and her husband, Joseph, live in Irwin, Pa. The Currans are proud new grandparents. They are learning to use Skype and e-mail to keep in touch with their extended family who live in Atlanta, Ga.
LYNNE (HIGGINS) DAVIS ’75 lives in Colorado with her husband, Don. Davis works as a human-computer interaction engineer at the University Corporation of Atmospheric Research. She has one daughter.
RICK FREEBURG ’75 lives in Waterford, Pa., with his wife, Jody. He retired from teaching in 2008 after 33 years in the Fort LeBoeuf School District. He is continuing to coach golf and track & field. Freeburg and his wife have three children.
JOHN “JACK” MARTIN ’75 lives in Erie, Pa., with his wife, Karen. Martin owns and operates Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. in Erie, Pa. They have two sons.
CORINNE “CORRIE” MILLER ’75 lives in Thorpe, Pa. She is retired from her job as a guidance counselor for Carbon County Vocational Technical School and as a part-time professor of psychology at Lehigh/Carbon Community College. She is now a commissioned lay pastor for a local nursing home where she also takes a therapy dog to visit residents.
RICHARD “DICK” ROTH JR. ’75 lives in Johnston, Iowa, with his wife, Connie. Roth retired from the Chrysler Corporation in 2008. He currently works for Bridgestone/Firestone in Des Moines, Iowa. The Roths have six sons.
MICHAEL J. DENTICI ’76 was recently named chief financial officer at T&M Associates in Warren, N.J., where he lives.
LAURA FRANZE ’76 was ranked among the nation’s top 100 employment lawyers by Human Resources Executive magazine in its May 2009 edition. Franze is a partner with Hunton & Williams LLP in Richmond, Va.
JIM CUNNINGHAM ’77 and his colleagues are celebrating his 30th year working for WQED-fm89.3 in Pittsburgh. (For more about Cunningham, check out the profile on page 28.) Ceci Sommers, the founding manager of the radio station, speaks highly of Jim saying, “Jim Cunningham is quite simply ‘the heart and soul’ of WQED-fm89.3”
ROB ’77 and MAGGIE (BOOSE) NORRIS ’78 live in Waxhaw, N.C. They have one son. Maggie is senior vice president for Wachovia-Wells Fargo, assisting with the banks’ merger. She writes that she is “trying to remember all that David Miller taught in his business courses.” Rob is still involved in some construction projects, but spends much of his time on the skeet range. Both Rob and Maggie are enjoying their “empty nest” status. They send “Greetings to all our classmates in the classes of 1977 & 1978, Sigma Kappa sorority, and the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. We would like to have a ‘maji dog’ again.”
DAVID “DOC” SANKEY ’78 lives in Greenville, Pa., with his wife, Cyndi. Sankey works in sales at Anderson Coach & Travel in Greenville. The Sankeys recently traveled more than 5 million miles and visited 40 countries with plans to visit more.

JOSEPH T. NAIRN ’79 lives in Fairport, N.Y., with his wife, Terri. He is the executive assistant to the president at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua, N.Y. Nairn and his wife have three children.
MARY (DENISON) SOWDEN ’79 lives in Mechanicsburg, Pa. She works for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in Harrisburg, Pa, as the Keystone Library Network coordinator.
1980s
MICHELE (NEWBOLD) DEMEL-HOLM ’80 lives in Staples, Minn., with her husband, Kurt. She works as a mental health practitioner with Northern Pines Mental Health Inc. in Brainerd, Minn. The couple has four children.
D. BRYCE HERRINGTON ’80 launched a new Web site, www.herringtonstudio.com, highlighting his original artwork in September 2009. Herrington also writes original poetry. His works were recently shown at the Nature Art Show at McKeever Environmental Learning Center.
PAULA (CAMERON) PHILLIPS ’81 lives in Mercer, Pa., with her husband, Thomas. They have two children.
BEVERLY A. LATZA ’82 lives in Overland Park, Kan. She is a tax examining technician with the IRS, for whom she has worked for nearly 20 years.
KAREN E. ELY, Ed.D. ’84 recently received her doctorate from the University of Rochester. She currently works as the associate director of residential life and housing services at the University of Rochester.
KEVIN P. VANG ’84 lives in Bangkok, Thailand, with his partner, Wojciech Dabrowka. In February, Vang became the Asia regional director of the World Society for the Protection of Animals. Vang and Dabrowka run a wildlife photography company, Bird Explorers. They presented a photo exhibition of Vietnamese wildlife at the Hanoi Opera House for 2009 World Environment Day.
LISA A. BRANDT ’85 lives in Prescott Valley, Ariz. She has two college-age daughters.
MATTHEW C. KICHMAN ’85 works as a senior environmental sales associate for Alternative Environmental Solutions in Lancaster, Pa.
LORI (RICHMOND) HUDNALL ’87 and her husband, Mark, live in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. They have two children and one grandson. Hudnall works for Sterling Construction Management, LLC.
LISA (MANCUSO) WHEELER ’87 was a speaker/panelist at The 5th Annual National Veteran Small Business Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, Nev., in August. She is vice president of contracts for DigiFlight, Inc., a small systems engineering firm that supports many agencies in the intelligence community. Wheeler and her husband, Jeff, have two daughters. The family lives in Ellicott City, Md.
LT. MARVIN E. HILL ’88 was promoted to lieutenant and became the new commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren Licensing and Commercial Standards Unit in July 2009. He lives in Leavittsburg, Ohio, with his wife, Lizabeth. They have three sons, one daughter and one step-daughter.
KURT RICH ’88 was recently hired by MEC, Milwaukee Electronics Company, as a business development manager. He and his wife, Vanessa, live in Hamburg, N.Y.
MARK KOOSER ’89 lives in Coatesville, Pa., with his wife, Rachael. Kooser recently completed his master’s degree in business administration at Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa. He has accepted the position of program director for the complex and extended care unit of the St. John Vianney Center in Downingtown, Pa.
1990s
BOB BIGGINS ’90 lives in Saint Joseph, Mich., with his wife, Amy. Biggins received his doctorate in leadership & organizational analysis from Western Michigan University in June 2009 after an eight-year journey. He works as an engineering manager for Robert Bosch, LLC and has three children.
CAROLYN (SCOTT) HARNED ’90 lives in Meadville, Pa., with her husband, David. She works as a controller for Advanced Cast Productions, Inc. The Harneds have one child.
DAMON J. DOHAR ’92 became superintendent of Weathersfield Schools in Mineral Ridge, Ohio, in July 2009. He also is a doctoral candidate at Youngstown State University.
CARA A. (HOEHN) LAPIC ’92 and WALTER LAPIC ’95 live in Freedom, Pa. Cara is a senior project manager at the Bank of New York Mellon Corp. in Pittsburgh.
LAURA L. LORD ’92 is a manager of products accounting at Kinder Morgan in Alpharetta, Ga., where she recently bought her own home.
BRENDA PALMER ’93 lives in Phoenix, Ariz. She works as an analyst for PetSmart Corporation. She has a
three-year-old son.
CONNIE DUSAK ’95 lives in Pittsburgh with her fiancé, Jamey Bennett. Dusak is self-employed as a wellness educator for NSA/Juice Plus. She has one daughter.
JASON ’97 and KELLY (LITTLE-ZAHNISER) DILEY ’97 live in Youngsville, Pa., with their daughter and son. Jason was recently promoted to CEO of the Rouse Estate, a long-term care facility, in Youngsville, Pa.
JENNIFER L. GRUMBLING ’97 lives in Palm Harbor, Fla., with her family. Grumbling is a marketing specialist for Answers Systems.
STEVE ’98 and MARIE (BRAUND) TARBOX ’99 live in Smethport, Pa. Steve is owner/director of Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., and Marie is a student at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, where she is working toward a bachelor’s degree in education with certification in elementary education.
ANDREW ’99 and AMBER (COCHRAN) APISA ’01 live in Girard, Ohio. Andrew is a high school mathematics teacher and coach at Mineral Ridge High School. Amber is an office manager with Thermo Supply in West Middlesex, Pa. This summer, Andrew competed in the USA Track and Field (USATF) Masters National Meet in Oshkosh, Wis. He placed first in shot-put, hammer throw and weight-throw, and second in discus and javelin.
RENEE BAIR ’99 lives in Lancaster, N.Y. She recently received her master’s degree in mental health counseling from Medaille College in Buffalo, N.Y. She is a social worker and educational success program supervisor at Joan A. Male Family Support Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
CHRISTOPHER CHILL ’99 lives in Fombell, Pa., with his wife, Jennifer. Chill is a self-employed physical therapist. They have a two-year old son.
ANN R. ENSMINGER ’99 lives in Pittsburgh. She is the director of operations for Animal Friends, Inc., a premier adoption agency and community resource for companion animals.
JOHN LATKOWSKI ’99 is the property manager for Soclof Enterprises in Beachwood, Ohio. Latkowski lives in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.
MELANIE T. LINN ’99 lives in Steubenville, Ohio. She works as the accounts payable specialist for Valley Hospice, Inc. in Rayland, Ohio.
BRANDI (GREEN) WARE ’99 lives in Lehighton, Pa., with her daughter. She works as a treatment team supervisor for Kidspeace National Centers in Orefield, Pa.
2000s
MELISSA G. LEWIS ’00 was recently hired as assistant chief of staff in the president’s office at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. She lives in Harrisburg, Pa.
CLYDE MORGAN ’00 and JENNIFER (BARNES) MORGAN ’03 have two children and live in Crawfordsville, Ind. Clyde is the head track coach at Wabash College. He was one of only 20 coaches chosen from throughout the U.S. to work at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Training Center as part of the USATF 2009 Emerging Elite Coaching Camp.
CHRIS KLINE ’01 was named executive director of the West Overton Museums in Scottdale, Pa., in April 2009. He holds a master’s degree in diplomacy and is a candidate for a master’s degree in American history from the American Military University in Charleston, W.Va.
