Thiel College Peer Mentors chosen to help first-year students transition to college experience

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Fifteen Thiel College students will aid the College’s incoming first-year students transition to college life as Peer Mentors for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The students primarily serve as advisors and guides for first-year students. Some of their roles include assisting in teaching an introductory course, aiding their fellow students in creating a class schedule for the spring semester, serving as a liaison with faculty members, and informing students of and encouraging them to go to events.

The program is in its fourth year.

The new 2020–2021 academic year Peer Mentors:

• Tyla Belton ’21, of Altoona, Pa., is an Altoona Area Senior High School graduate and a political science major;
• Roman Booth ’23, of Columbiana, Ohio, is a Columbiana High School graduate and is psychology major;
• Matt Clark ’21, of Jamestown, Pa., is a Jamestown Area Junior-Senior High School graduate and a public relations, advertising and integrated marketing major;
• Jarren Daniels ’23, of Alliance, Ohio, is an Alliance High School graduate and a secondary education and history major;
• Tyren Harrell ’23, of Pittsburgh, Pa., is an Imani Christian Academy graduate and a business administration major;
• Julia Langietti ’22, of Greenville, Pa., is a Greenville High School graduate and a secondary education and history major;
• Ashley Limestoll ’23, of Andover, Ohio, is a Pymatuning Valley High School graduate and a criminal justice major;
• Shyloh McTighe ’22, of Hadley, Pa., is a Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School graduate and a biology major;
• Ava Park ’22, of Greenville, Pa., is a Greenville High School graduate and an elementary and special education major;
• Allison Philbrick ’23, of Kinsman, Ohio, is a Badger High School graduate and an elementary and special education major;
• Noah Toy ’23, of Greenville, Pa., is a Greenville High School graduate and a secondary education and history major;
• Sydney Turner ’21, of Chicora, Pa., is a Karns City Area Senior High School graduate and a biology major;
• Hannah Uschock ’22, of Indiana, Pa., is an Indiana High School graduate and a history, philosophy and political science triple major;
• Emily Valentine ’21, of Murrysville, Pa., is a Franklin Regional High School graduate and a secondary education and biology major;
• Hallie Vogt ’23, of Lake City, Pa., is a Girard High School graduate and a general studies major.

“Every year our peer mentors play a central role in helping first-year students transition to life at college, but this year more than most, the mentors are an important friendly face for new students,” Associate Academic Dean for Student Success Greg Q. Butcher, Ph.D. said.
