Thiel College fraternity members wearing heels and collecting donations this week

GREENVILLE, Pa.—The members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Thiel College are wearing high heels and standing at the intersection of routes 18 and 58 to collect donations for a Mercer County domestic shelter this week.

The fraternity is participating in its “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” fundraiser. Proceeds from their fundraising will be donated to AWARE, Inc., the Mercer County domestic and sexual violence victims agency.

“Our effort is to raise awareness for domestic violence. Even though the event is called Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes, we raise awareness for all domestic and sexual violence and we symbolize, through us wearing heels, that one may not understand what a victim may have been through or how they feel,” Sigma Phi Epsilon President Connor Lovic ’24 said. “It is so important because domestic violence is a hard topic to discuss, especially for survivors, and we want to show that we stand with those survivors and that what they are going through matters.”

The students will be collecting money this week through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their goal is to collect as much money as possible for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the area, said Lovic, a data analytics, accounting and forensic accounting triple-major from Pulaksi, Pa.
