Thiel College alumna Counselman named to Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 Under 40

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College alumna Joslyne (Cook) Counselman ’14 has been named to Pittsburgh Magazine’s prestigious “40 Under 40” list for 2024.

Counselman is a financial advisor at Thrivent Financial. She has been recognized for her professional achievements and extensive community involvement in the Pittsburgh region. She graduated from Thiel College with degrees in mathematics and actuarial science, laying the foundation for a successful career in financial and insurance services.

At Thrivent Financial, Counselman has made a lasting impact through her leadership and dedication. She has evolved from a solo practitioner to leading a dynamic team of financial professionals and has been an integral part of Thrivent’s Executive Advisory Team, where she collaborates with top executives to shape the company’s strategic direction.

In addition to her professional achievements, Counselman has demonstrated a deep commitment to her community. As President of the North Allegheny Women’s Association, she has expanded membership and tripled the organization’s financial resources. She also actively supports suicide prevention efforts, serves on the board of Al's Bike Drive, and organizes charity events such as the Adult Easter Egg Hunt to benefit local causes. A cum laude graduate at Thiel, Counselman was a member of the Chi Omega women’s fraternity where she held positions as treasurer and new member educator. She served as president and then vice president of the PanHellenic Council. She belonged to several honor societies including Kappa Mu Epsilon, Pi Nu Epsilon, Alpha Psi Omega, and Les Laurier. Counselman was president of the choir and active in chamber and handbell choirs.

Award winners will be celebrated at an event on November 15 at Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino Event Center.

Counselman’s recognition marks the second consecutive year that a Thiel graduate has been honored, following Maggie Giel-Bovaird ’09, who received the accolade in 2023.

Since 1998, the awards program has recognized 2,000 artists, entrepreneurs, doctors, educators, nonprofit executives, public figures, business leaders, behind-the-scenes contributors, and more. 40 Under 40 honorees are diverse, passionate and committed difference makers who are transforming Pittsburgh through their professional and community contributions. In a typical year, the nomination pool exceeds 250 submissions making the 40 Under 40 Awards one of the premier recognition opportunities in the region for young Pittsburghers. Following a rigorous review and selection process, all Honorees are chosen by a judging panel of past 40 Under 40 winners, community leaders, and program hosts and sponsors, based on professional and community achievements. All award winners are notified in late summer and then honored at the annual 40 Under 40 Awards celebration held each fall that draws over 400 attendees. In addition to being honored at the 40 Under 40 Awards event, all award winners are featured in the November issue of Pittsburgh Magazine.
