GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania will celebrate the College’s annual autumn tradition of Homecoming with the theme “Something Old and New, Something Gold and Blue” on Oct. 13-15.
“The theme captures the significant changes on campus, while still recognizing the traditions and connections that make Thiel College special,” Director of Alumni Relations Kelly Sanzari ’13 said. “Alumni and friends of the College are invited back to help us recognize these milestone moments in the College’s history with the dedications of our new science facility and track and field complex.”
The dedications will be among the marquee events during Homecoming 2017. College leaders will be joined by elected officials, community members and alumni to dedicate the new $4.5 million science connector. The science connector adds 7,850 square feet of classroom and collaborative space and opens the door for future expansion of the College’s science facilities and programs.
Prior to the science building dedication, the College will dedicate its new track and field facility. That ceremony will culminate with a 5K fun run and walk that will signify the first official College event on the track. The track complex—located near the baseball and softball fields—gives all Thiel College’s varsity sports a home field on campus and will serve as a valuable community resource.
Activities are scheduled throughout the weekend, but will begin with National Thiel Spirit Day, a social media campaign and contest, on Oct. 12 as alumni take pictures in their favorite Thiel gear and share them online.
“With an alumni base that is represented all over the country, we want to make sure everyone in the 15,000-plus member alumni network can share in the celebration of Homecoming,” Sanzari said.
Homecoming 2017 campus events kick off Oct. 13 with alumni registration and hospitality. The Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series is at 6 p.m. Friday in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel. The award-winning Milton String Quartet will perform at the event. The festivities continue through the day with student and alumni networking events, receptions, and culminate with a student pep rally. Friday’s marquee event is the third annual Thiel Gala.
A full slate of events is scheduled for Saturday, including Homecoming 5K, reunions, the Tomcat Family Zone, parade, Alumni Awards Luncheon, football game and marching band performance.
