Eric Matthews, Ph.D. is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at Thiel College, known for combining academic expertise with real-world experience. With degrees from the University of Florida (B.A., 1986), the University of Kentucky (M.A., 1991), and Kent State University (Ph.D., 2006), Matthews brings a wealth of knowledge in political science, specializing in public policy, constitutional law, and comparative politics. At Thiel College, he leads the Moot Court Program, offering undergraduate pre-law students practical insights into legal policy and the U.S. Constitution. Psychology and public policy major Brooke Griffith ’26 shares, “Moot Court connects classroom theories with real-life case scenarios.”
A co-editor of “Achievements and Legacy of the Obama Presidency” (2022) and “The Legacy of the Trump Administration: A Disruptive Presidency” (2024), Matthews’s unique background also includes meeting U.S. presidents, running marathons in iconic locations, coaching soccer for nearly 30 years, and holding a commercial fishing license in North Carolina. His teaching style fosters meaningful connections, making him an inspiring mentor for students eager to dive into political science and pre-law studies.
