    About History – Secondary Education

    Thiel College’s Secondary Education program is a cooperative program offered through the Department of History and the Department of Education. This joint venture includes a variety of courses in U.S. and World History, historical research, education foundations, mentoring, effective instructional practices and curriculum, instruction and assessment.

    History - Secondary Education Objectives

    At Thiel College, the bachelor’s degree courses in history secondary education prepare students to:

    • Complete field and student teaching experiences and complete the PRAXIS exam.
    • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of contemporary society—its people, ideas and institutions.
    • Analyze the cause(s) and result(s) of historical events across a broad spectrum.
    • Obtain a knowledge of human experiences as represented through history.
    • Identify, analyze and interpret historical evidence and to develop historical perspective.
    • Apply an historical perspective when visiting an historical site or attending an historical conference.
    • Master effective communication in oral and written forms in the field.
    • Cultivate interpersonal skills and learn to be a valuable member of a team.
    • Network with distinguished History and Education alumni.
