Kara Schreckenghost is deeply dedicated to education and student success. She lives in Sharpsville with her two children, Tyson and Kolten. Before joining Thiel College, she spent 11 years as a special education teacher at Greenville Area School District.

At Thiel, Schreckenghost has been instrumental in shaping the Department of Education. She served as co-chair for two years before taking on the role of sole chair for the past three years, alongside her responsibilities as Director of Teacher Education. She has also been a dedicated instructor in the Excel Opportunities Program and has taught a freshman seminar course for five years.

Schreckenghost is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Special Education at Slippery Rock University, with an anticipated completion in August 2025. She earned her K-12 Principal Certification from Slippery Rock in 2017, a master’s degree in special education supervision from California University of Pennsylvania in 2013, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Slippery Rock in 2008. A 2004 graduate of Sharpsville Area High School, she remains actively involved in her community.

She has served on the Sharpsville Baseball and Football Board and is currently a member of the Sharpsville Wrestling Board. She also spent a year on the Baughman Community Center Board. Outside of her professional and volunteer commitments, she enjoys hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with loved ones. She also loves traveling with her family.

A passionate music fan, Schreckenghost embraces any opportunity for a dance party. Two of her favorite sayings are:

    • “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.”
    • “The more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for.”

One of her most cherished Thiel moments is serving as an Excel instructor, where she helps students form their first connections on campus. “I cherish the moments we have in class each day, bonding at Pymatuning, the laughter during Trivia Nights at Padrones, and the fact that I get to see students through their college career from their first day on campus to their last. All of the students at Thiel make me so proud, even if they aren’t Education majors,” she said.
