More than 30 years ago, Thiel College entered into a cooperative agreement with the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (PIMS). This program is designed to serve students who wish to enter into the funeral profession.
Students complete Thiel College requirements first. This normally takes between five to six semesters. Upon completion, the student enrolls in PIMS for the final twelve months of study. Upon satisfactory completion of the PIMS portion, the student graduates with both a B.A. degree (business major) from Thiel College and a mortuary diploma from PIMS.
Program coordinator Prof. David Miller '61 is a PIMS graduate and was active in the funeral profession for 11 years. Miller also serves on the Board of Directors at PIMS to ensure the best possible coordination between the two institutions. Mortuary science majors travel to Pittsburgh to visit PIMS every year. This helps make the transition process as flawless as possible.
