    About Business Administration – Mortuary Science

    Thiel College’s Mortuary Science major is a cooperative program offered through the Arthur McGonigal Department of Business Administration and Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science (PIMS). This joint venture includes a variety of courses in accounting, business management, statistics, business communication, and economics.

    Students spend their first five semesters at Thiel, followed by three trimesters at PIMS. Upon completion, students earn a B.A. in Business Administration from Thiel and a diploma in funeral directing and embalming from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

    Business Administration - Mortuary Science Program Objectives

    At Thiel College, the bachelor’s degree and diploma courses prepare students to:

    1. Gain admissions into PIMS (Pittsburgh Institute for Mortuary Science)
    2. Sit for the State Board of Exam for Funeral Directors.
    3. Perform basic business management functions.
    4. Develop competency in data analysis techniques, including use of spreadsheets and databases.
    5. Gain experience in resolving ethical dilemmas faced by business managers.
    6. Demonstrate effective communication in oral and written forms in the field.
    7. Cultivate interpersonal skills and learn to be a valuable member of a team.
    8. Network with distinguished business alumni.

    Business Administration - Mortuary Science Curriculum

    This business administration program includes depth and breadth in data analytics, principles of investments, international business and strategic management. PIMS courses are designed to prepare our students to be equipped with the tools, knowledge, and skill necessary for a successful future within the funeral industry.
