GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Jared Hanneman, Ph.D. has been promoted to Associate Dean for Academic Success at Thiel College effectively immediately.

In his new position as Associate Dean for Academic Success, Hanneman will oversee various offices and programs that support student success and retention efforts. A central focus of his leadership will be on advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives—creating an inclusive learning environment for all students. Additionally, he will spearhead faculty development programs aimed at fostering growth in these areas and beyond. Since joining Thiel College in 2014, Hanneman has played pivotal roles at Thiel College, serving as chairperson of the faculty, program director for the Masters of Arts in Communication and Leadership, chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice Studies and Associate Professor of Sociology.

Hanneman has been recognized for his outstanding dedication to teaching and mentorship, earning the prestigious title of Professor of the Year during the College’s Founders’ Day celebration in February.

Beyond Thiel College, Hanneman has made significant contributions to the field of education. He serves as a peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and has acted as a facilitator for a Council of Independent Colleges Department and Division Chairs workshop. His expertise and involvement in these areas make him well-equipped to drive positive change and promote academic excellence.

Hanneman earned a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University of Ohio in 2000, a Master of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003, and a Ph.D. from the City University of New York in 2014. A comprehensive academic background equips him with a multidimensional perspective and a deep understanding of the complexities of higher education.

Outside of his professional commitments, Hanneman has demonstrated a commitment to intellectual engagement and scholarly pursuits. He was the first organizer of the Scholarship and Arts Symposium at Thiel College and contributed to the Instructional Design Teams during the initial year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, he is a member of the Midwest Sociological Society, where he actively contributes to the advancement of sociological research and scholarship.
