The curtain goes up on the Thiel Players' first fall production, "The Guys," on Sept. 11-12. The play by Anne Nelson will be performed in the College's William A. Robinson Theater. Opening night of the production takes place on the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a central point for the story.

Assistant Professor of Psychology Shannon Deets, Ph.D., has joined the Thiel College faculty as a tenure track professor this academic year, after spending 2014-15 as a visiting professor.

On Labor Day, President Troy D. VanAken, Ph.D., and his wife, Dr. Annette VanAken, accompanied about 85 Thiel College students to Ohiopyle State Park to go white water rafting on the Youghiogheny River.
Students have made the trip each of the last three years. Director of Student Activities and Involvement Than Oo said the activity was part of new student orientation in the past, but the recent trips have been open to all students. He said he is working on details for a potential rock climbing excursion this fall.
Monday's trip was also used as a training exercise for Greek life coordinators and Activity Board members, Oo said.

Faculty and staff gathered in the Sawhill Georgian Room on Wednesday morning for updates and announcements from around campus during the first TNT of the 2015-16 academic year. The next TNT is set for Oct. 6.

TNT takes place from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. in the Sawhill Georgian Room in the Howard Miller Student Center (HMSC).
The Alpha Chi induction ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel is open to the entire Thiel College community. An invitation-only dinner follows the induction ceremony in the David Johnson Community Center. Alpha Chi is a national honorary fraternity that recognizes students who have achieved high academic standing. Membership in Alpha Chi is by invitation to full-time juniors and seniors. Seniors must have a GPA of 3.6 and rank in the top 10 percent of their class. Juniors must have a GPA of 3.7 or higher and rank in the top five percent of their class. Students Dominic Licata '16, Katie Allgeier '16, Ivey Shorts '16 and Sean Oros '15 highlight the first Thiel Forum presentations. The Forum is from 4-5 p.m. Sept. 17 in Stamm Lecture Hall in the James Pedas Communication Center.
The Thiel Forums are held monthly on select Thursdays throughout the academic year in the Stamm Lecture Hall in the James Pedas Communication Center. They provide faculty, students and staff an opportunity to share projects or publications and to discuss their work.

R12:2 Youth Conference

R12:2 is a youth conference to aid Christian teens in growing their faith. A variety of local youth leaders, pastors and teachers will provide messages and worship time will follow. Performing musicians include StillWaiting, The Uriah Effect, Mr. Hanzo and the Dave Buchanan Band.
Tomcat Tributes are designed to recognize the teamwork Thiel College employees exhibit each day. Employees can nominate co-workers for recognition in four categories (Random Act of Kindness, Going the Extra Mile, Had a Great Idea, Just Because).
