Cardiologist and author to speak at Thiel College added to New York Times online roster

With two books published, plans for an NBC television series based on one of his books and a long list of academic credentials, Sandeep Jauhar, M.D., already had an impressive resume. Now Jauhar, who will be speaking at Thiel College’s second annual Haer Family Symposium at 7 p.m. March 30, can add online journalist to his list of accomplishments.

Thiel College marked the achievements of its highest achieving accepted academic students at the inaugural Academic Distinction Celebration at the Lutheran Heritage Room in the Howard Miller Student Center on campus Friday evening.

Johns Hopkins economist Hough to explain irrational decision-making in health care

During his presentation at Thiel College’s Haer Family Symposium at 7 p.m. March 31 at the Lutheran Heritage Room, Johns Hopkins economist and author Douglas E. Hough, Ph.D. will answer why people in health care, both patients and medical providers, often make illogical decisions.

Dorian Quintet performs in front of large audience

The Dorian Wind Quintet performed in front of about 175 in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel Tuesday evening. It was the second installment of this year's Con Spirito Chamber Music Series. 

It was the fourth time the Dorian Wind Quintet performed at Thiel College.

Basket winners, vendors highlight Employee Benefit and Wellness Fair

The Human Resources Department would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2015 Employee Benefit and Wellness Fair on March 17. It was a great turnout! We hope you found useful information, services and activities relating to being a member of the Thiel College community.

If you have ideas for future benefit/wellness fairs, please contact a member of the Human Resources team.

It was fun to see a little competition among the departments and committees in their efforts to donate the most creative prize basket.  

The generosity of the following departments/committee is greatly appreciated: Athletics, Facilities (Housekeeping & Maintenance), Library, President’s Office, Safety Committee, Student Life, The Learning Commons.

The department to receive the most votes for the favorite basket was Facilities. They had donuts delivered last Thursday compliments of Human Resources.

Facilities recognizes contributions during campus cleanup

Thiel College Director of Facilities Mike Shultz wanted to say "thank you" to everyone who helped during last Thursday's campus cleanup. It made a huge difference in the look of the sidewalks, buildings and grass.

"We realize there is still a lot of repair needed to correct the damage done over the winter, but what a great start," said Schultz. "Thank you again for all of the help!"

21-gun salute helps Kappa Sigma recognize service members

Last Wednesday, The Greenville VFW was on campus to help Kappa Sigma commemorate military service members with a 21-gun salute. Kappa Sigma also hosted a display of relics and memorabilia from both world wars, and Chapter brother Dustin Slomainy spoke about his experiences as a member of the United States Army during Kappa Sigma's Military Heroes Appreciation Week on campus.

The A Greater Cause Foundation was established by Kappa Sigma fraternity to support the charitable endeavors of the undergraduate chapters of the fraternity. The principal program of the A Greater Cause Foundation is Kappa Sigma’s Military Heroes Campaign.

Criswell, Kargbo win TLC's first Extraordinary Effort Awards

In March, The Learning Commons initiated Extraordinary Effort Awards to recognize students for their participation in the TLC and their outstanding contribution to the pursuit of academic excellence. Keeley Criswell and Edward Kargbo are the first recipients to be honored. Criswell is a senior physics major and has served as Supplemental Instruction leader for physics and math courses for five semesters. Kargbo is a sophomore majoring in computer science who utilized TLC resources and improved his grade point average significantly in one semester.

Alumni Relations invites employees to Paint Nite

Alumni Relations will host a Paint Nite event from 2 to 5 p.m. April 19 at Roland’s Seafood Grill in the Pittsburgh Strip District. Thiel employees are welcome to attend this "Sunday Funday" of painting, cocktails, appetizers and fun. The featured artist will be Thiel alumna and owner/licensee of Paint Nite Pittsburgh Connie Dusak '95. Connie will teach attendees how to paint a wine glass piece in a carefree non-judgemental atmosphere.
