GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College students Malajah Johnson ’23 and Liz Heberling ’24 traveled to Harrisburg, Pa. in March to present their undergraduate research during Undergraduate Research at the Capitol-PA Poster Conference.

The Undergraduate Research at the Capitol - Pennsylvania Poster Conference is an educational event that allows undergraduate students enrolled in Pennsylvania’s colleges and universities to showcase their research talents to the Commonwealth’s key decision-makers. The conference was March 7. The conference encourages students to present on all fields of research. During this event participants share their experiences and ideas with their counterparts from other schools and enlighten state legislators on topics that are important to society.

Johnson is a first-generation college student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology. Johnson had the opportunity to visit the Capitol of Pennsylvania to present her research poster on chronic pain inflammation.

“It is really important to be able to present my research with different Pa. legislators,” Johnson said. “Members of Thiel were a major contribution to my success.”

Heberling is a double major in environmental science and environmental safety management. In Harrisburg, she presented her research poster on bedrock erosion and how it is affected by acid rain.

“It’s going through each step of the Tomcat Way by being able to learn, explore, take my changes and becoming a leader by being able to take all this research, put it together in the presentation I had in Harrisburg,” Heberling said.

She developed the research experiment herself with the help of Professor of Environmental Science and Department Chair Anna Reinsel, Ph.D. ’06.
