GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College will host a guest speaker from The Asservo Project on Friday, Sept. 25 for a discussion about the role social media can play in human trafficking and child exploitation.

Brenda Lutz, education and awareness coordinator for The Asservo Project, will present from 1–2 p.m. in Bly Auditorium in the Daniel and Dorothy Spence Academic Center. The event is free and open to the entire community.

The presentation will focus on social media, human trafficking and child exploitation, with an emphasis on education and awareness. The Asservo Project is a Moon Township, Pa.-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to combat human trafficking and child exploitation, support survivors and help hold traffickers accountable through partnerships with law enforcement, survivor empowerment and community education.

Lutz has served as an awareness coordinator with The Asservo Project for two years and has more than 25 years of experience working with children. She became an advocate for human trafficking awareness approximately 15 years ago and works to educate communities about trafficking, exploitation and prevention.

Thiel College Physician Assistant Program Director and Director of Didactic Education Jessica Sloan organized the presentation as a follow-up educational activity for physician assistant students. The program was expanded to the broader campus community to provide students across academic disciplines with an opportunity to learn more about human trafficking and the potential risks associated with social media.

The Asservo Project maintains a tip line at 877-728-3994.
