Thiel College physician assistant students honor donors at Gratitude Ceremony

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Students in the Thiel College Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program recently held a Gratitude Ceremony to honor the individuals who generously donated their bodies to science and the members of the donors’ families to recognize that gift.

The ceremony, which took place in December in the Haer Family Science and Arts Connector, was originally planned as an outdoor event to dedicate a newly planted tree honoring the donors. However, inclement weather necessitated moving the event indoors. The tree, planted in the fall, symbolizes the growth of Thiel College’s Physician Assistant Studies program and the personal and professional development of its students.

The event was attended by members of the Classes of 2025 and 2026, Thiel College President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., and members of the administration and faculty. The ceremony featured student reflections on their experiences in the program and in the cadaver lab, which plays a critical role in expanding their understanding of anatomy and physiology.

Anatomy and Physiology Lecturer Daniel Dankovich, D.C. collaborated with key members of the Thiel College community and students to organize the event. Dankovich emphasized the importance of recognizing the donors' selfless contributions, stating, “Body donation is a perpetual gift because students who train at Thiel College will carry their knowledge to all parts of the world and pass the knowledge on to others who learn from them.”

Since its inception in 2021, the Thiel College physician assistant program has benefited from the generosity of donors, as well as the support of the Humanity Gifts Registry Program and the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. These partnerships provide students with a unique and invaluable learning experience that equips them to make meaningful contributions to the healthcare field.

This Gratitude Ceremony reflects Thiel College’s commitment to fostering an environment of respect, reflection, and gratitude as its students prepare for their roles as healthcare professionals.
