GREENVILLE, Pa.—Qualified students can earn a bachelor’s degree in biology from Thiel College and advance into medical school in just two years through a new partnership with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The accelerated 2+4 Early Acceptance Program allows students to complete two years at Thiel before beginning four years of medical education at LECOM, potentially shortening the traditional eight-year educational timeline by two years. Students who meet LECOM’s Early Acceptance Program academic and progression requirements may also enter medical school without taking the Medical College Admission Test.

The partnership provides opportunities for eligible students to receive conditional acceptance into a LECOM professional program as early as their senior year of high school, offering greater certainty as they begin their undergraduate education.

“For students who dream of becoming physicians, this partnership lets student begin their academic journey at Thiel, receive the personal attention that defines our College and potentially enter medical school after two years,” said Susan Traverso, Ph.D., president of Thiel College. “Talented students can complete their undergraduate and medical degrees in less time than the traditional pathway requires, making quality education available at an affordable price.”

In addition to the accelerated osteopathic medicine program, the agreement offers multiple pathways into healthcare professions:

The pathways allow students to pursue undergraduate study at Thiel before entering professional programs at LECOM, with the length of undergraduate preparation varying by program. Admission and progression are subject to the academic and other requirements established by LECOM.

“Success in medical school begins with a strong academic foundation,” said Sheila Nowinski, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College. “Our students benefit from close relationships with faculty, rigorous science coursework and individualized guidance as they prepare for the demands of professional education. This agreement connects those strengths with a clear opportunity to advance into healthcare careers.”

The partnership builds on Thiel’s emphasis on personalized education and career-focused academic programs, connecting its undergraduate science curriculum with professional education opportunities at one of the nation's largest medical colleges.
