Thiel College hosting Mercer County students for communications camp

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College is hosting students from seven Mercer County high schools as part of an innovative communication camp that is giving students access to the state-of-the-art equipment in the James Pedas Communication Center.

Students from Grove City, Greenville, Commodore Perry, Jamestown, West Middlesex, Sharon, and Mercer high schools are getting an in-depth introduction to all phases of the broadcasting profession. The camp is a collaboration of the United Way of Mercer County and Thiel College. The program runs through Friday and includes learning about the podcasting, video recording and broadcasting and radio equipment available at the $4.5 million James Pedas Communication Center. This initiative is offering students a hands-on experience in various aspects of broadcasting. Participants will gain insights into the technical and creative components of the industry, including production, editing, reporting, and on-air presentation.

“Providing students with access to the James Pedas Communication Center is a fantastic way to bridge academic learning with practical experience,” said Thiel College Assistant Professor of Communication and Department Chair Matthew Humphrey, who is one of the instructors for the camp. “We are excited to see the creativity and enthusiasm these students will bring to the program.”

The James Pedas Communication Center, known for its state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology, will serve as an ideal setting for students to explore the dynamic field of broadcasting. The center is equipped with modern studios, editing suites, and classrooms that provide a professional environment for learning and creativity.
