Thiel College graduate student named interim Coordinator for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Tyla Belton ’21, G’22 was recently appointed to serve as the interim Coordinator for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Thiel College during the spring 2022 semester.

In her new position, Belton will lead efforts on campus to foster and maintain an increasingly inclusive environment that welcomes, embraces, supports, and celebrates diversity in all its forms at Thiel College. Serving as a resource to all students, faculty, and staff, Belton’s role will include advocacy, student services, program development, and training/outreach. She will collaborate with offices and individuals across campus to advance equity and inclusion and support students through recruitment and retention efforts, advising student organizations, and eliminating barriers to success and participation.

About 23 percent of Thiel’s student body identifies as a member of a minority or underrepresented population, which is among the highest for small liberal arts undergraduate colleges in the region.

Belton earned her undergraduate degree in political science from the College in May 2021. She spent her final semester prior to graduation as an intern in Washington D.C. as part of the Lutheran Colleges Washington Semester program. She returned to the College in July 2021 as part of the first graduate student cohort to pursue the new Master of Arts in communication and leadership being offered at Thiel.
