GREENVILLE, Pa.—Undergraduate student members of Thiel College’s English honorary society, Sigma Tau Delta, hosted a poetry reading with residents at St. Paul’s Senior Living Community in early December.

The poetry reading on Dec. 1 was Sigma Tau Delta’s community outreach event of the fall semester. At the event, students read poetry aloud for the residents, and residents created bookmarks. The purpose of the event was to connect generations together and bond over a shared love of literature.

The honor society members who participated in the event said they enjoyed interacting with the residents and look forward to making it an annual event.

“We experienced positive feedback from students and the residents alike, and the residents were grateful that we spent time with them,” Taylor Pearce ’24, President of Sigma Tau Delta and English Secondary Education major said.

“I had such a lovely time with the residents, and I think they enjoyed having something different and more creative to do,” Samantha Reid ’24, an English secondary education major, said.

The Poetry Reading at St. Paul’s concluded an active semester for Sigma Tau Delta, which included participating in the Activities Fair, selling flowers at the fall play for fundraising, hosting a Christmas party, and preparing creative submissions for review for The Phoenix. Next semester, Sigma Tau Delta plans to host a Poetry Reading event for the Greenville community as well as publish the Spring 2024 edition of The Phoenix.
