GREENVILLE, Pa.—In response to the Mercer County Food Bank’s emergency call to action, Thiel College has joined organizations across the region in supporting the “Together We Can Food and Funds Drive” by serving as a drop-off collection site and hosting an event on Saturday.

Nonperishable food items will be accepted before Saturday’s football game against Bethany College at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field. A donation box is also located inside the lobby of the Langenheim Memorial Library on campus. Community members and students may drop off nonperishable items during the Library’s regular operating hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The emergency initiative comes as the Mercer County Food Bank prepares to distribute nearly 100,000 meals to its network of agencies amid concerns over a potential federal government shutdown, a state budget impasse, and the possible suspension of federal food aid programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. These issues could directly affect more than 19,000 Mercer County residents.

The campus collection site supports the Food Bank’s effort to help local pantries meet increased demand and ensure residents continue to have access to essential food supplies.

“We’re thankful to join the Food Bank in this effort,” said Richard Orr, vice president for communications and marketing at Thiel College. “It’s a meaningful way to support our neighbors, and we hope the Thiel community will respond with generosity.”
