“We created Lil’ Scratchers to teach essential skills and techniques to young athletes, ensuring they enjoy themselves and create lasting memories,” Burnett said. “The program serves as a way to support the youth in our area and gives Thiel athletes an opportunity to engage with the Greenville community. I’m delighted to witness the growth of the Lil’ Scratchers Program and to see so many returning participants each year, eager to join in the fun.”
Athletes who attend the camp will learn cheerleading basics from the Tomcat cheerleaders, including motions, jumps, stunts, pyramids, and tumbling.
Burnett guided the Tomcats cheer team to a first-place finish at the National Cheerleaders Association College Nationals in Daytona, Fla. in April 2023. The Tomcats finished third last year and were second in 2022. Since Burnett’s hire in 2018, participation on the cheer team has been steadily increasing, with the roster growing from 14 to over 30.
