Collection of artists displaying works at Thiel College’s art gallery through November

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania, will be highlighting the works on paper from several private collections in the Weyers-Sampson Gallery through November.

Included in the exhibition are prominent American artists such Thiel College professor emeritus Alvin Dunkle, who passed away in 2009, David Fertig, Robert Kulicke, and Robert Andrew Parker. Artists recognized by art history are also exhibited such as Max Beckmann, Francisco Goya, Raoul Dufy, Alberto Giacometti, Käthe Kollwitz, Erich Heckel and Leonard Baskin. The selected works give visitors a broad range of subject matter and technique to contemplate and enjoy.

An opening reception was held October 23 to officially open the works of these various artists. The exhibition continues until Nov. 28.

The Weyers-Sampson Gallery at Thiel College regularly hosts exhibitions from professional artists and student work. The gallery is free and open to the public. Hours for the fall semester are 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.-noon and 2:30-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Fridays, the gallery is open from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m., or by appointment. The Gallery will be closed Nov. 21-25.

The February exhibition will feature restored prints from the Thiel College collection. Over the summer, McConnor, Assistant Professor of History Sheila Nowinski, Ph.D., and student Isabella Bungo ’19 spent 10 weeks restoring and conducting historical research on work by Corita Kent. The Greenville Neuromodulation Center Faculty/Student Research Institute funded the project to restore the prints and sent Nowinski and Bungo to study Kent’s archived teaching papers at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.
