Media Specialist/Production Engineer

The Thiel College Academic Affairs Office invites qualified applicants for the position of Media Specialist/Production Engineer.  The qualified candidate will provide video and audio technical and engineering services; create instructional, research, institutional, or multimedia presentation materials; assist in the production, operation, or engineering aspects of the Pedas Center and Thiel College; assist in multimedia training and student mentoring; and establish film/videography policies and procedures, including development of film crew and selected video production.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage video and audio production equipment and systems for the Pedas Center, including but not limited to production studios, control rooms, master control, post-production editing and graphics suites.
  • Maintain video transcoding server and workflows.
  • Maintain live-to-air programming via cable and website (knowledge of automation and digital video workflows).
  • Configure and maintain video and audio production, transmission, storage, streaming and display equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair digital, analog and electromechanical equipment and systems to the component level, including all equipment located in TV studio and field equipment.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend video technology upgrades and replacement schedule.
  • Plan and manage engineering projects (software and hardware)
  • Consult with faculty and staff to determine multimedia needs.
  • Shoot, produce, and edit video program material.
  • Ability to produce and edit short form, advertising, and documentary style videos.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Candidate must possess proficiency in Adobe Premier, Final Cut and/or Avid, After Effects or Motion, Audacity, as well as in using Broadcast Pix/Grass Valley switchers and Tricasters. Knowledge of specific area of media arts (e.g., studio photography and lighting; computer‑based digital imaging; graphic arts, etc.); personal computer applications. Skill in the use of specialized video/audio equipment and materials employed in assigned area; written and interpersonal communication. Demonstrated ability to shoot, produce, and edit short form, advertising, and documentary style videos. This position will supervise students and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.

Bachelor’s or higher degree in Video/Audio Production, Instructional Media Technology, Communication, Media/Commercial Art, or related discipline; one to two years experience in a related field of multimedia production, operation, or engineering.
