GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania, will celebrate its annual tradition of Homecoming from September 27-30 with its theme “Road Trip.”

Activities are scheduled throughout the weekend, but will begin with a national social media event and a local cookout. The cookout celebrates the multi-generational cooperative program between Thiel and St. Paul’s, Joining Generations, on Thursday, Sept. 27. National Thiel Spirit Day, a social media campaign and contest, on Thursday, Sept. 27 as alumni take pictures in their favorite Thiel gear and share them online.

“With Thiel College alumni in all 50 states and several countries, the National Thiel Spirit Day is a way for everyone in the alumni network to share in the celebration of Homecoming,” Director of Alumni Relations David Hummel ’83 said.

Thiel’s connection to the Greenville community also will be celebrated with special Homecoming hours at the Waugh House Museum, 23 West Main Street, Greenville, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The museum—one of the oldest remaining brick buildings between Erie and Pittsburgh, according to the Greenville Historical Society—will display its 1913 Empire car that was built in Greenville and various Thiel College memorabilia.

Friday, Sept. 28 kicks off the schedule events on and around campus. The annual Blue-Gold Golf Outing begins at 9 a.m. Friday’s campus events include facility tours, alumni career and professional panels for students and a student-alumni networking event. Alumna Annie Rodriguez ’08 will host a reading of her new book “Lifeforce” at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Langenheim Memorial Library. The annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner also will be held Friday at the College’s Lutheran Heritage Room. Hall of Fame inductees are Beau Bilock ’01 (baseball), Tom Phillips ’70 (football), Laura Simonetti ’05 (soccer/basketball/track & field), as well as John Dickason, a celebrated longtime coach and administrator.

Saturday events include the parade ending in front of campus on College Avenue, class year reunions, the Tomcat Family Zone and Family Day events, Alumni Awards Luncheon, football game against Waynesburg, and marching band and alumni choir performances.

“The Road Trip theme symbolizes the nostalgia of the past when students made the trip to Greenville with their family to start the semesters or took a spur-of-the-moment adventure while a student. The traditions and connections that helped everyone feel a sense of belonging and helped them become what they are today are what make Thiel College special,” Hummel said. “Everyone is welcome on campus for Homecoming and for Family Day. Since my days as a student, Homecoming has been my favorite time of year.”

Additionally, the Thiel College softball team is hosting a tailgate lot as a fundraiser during Homecoming. Tailgate spots are available in the lot along College Avenue and across from the David Johnson Memorial Chapel. The spots are 14 feet by 14 feet for $24 and double spots will be 28x14 for $50. Each group can only purchase one double spot due to space limitations. A parking slot for a standard vehicle (no camper vehicles or trailers) is $10. Spots will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis on Saturday or can be reserved by contacting softball coach Stephanie Fort at 724-589-2164.
