Thiel College announced Monday its partnership with HomeTown Ticketing, Inc., a leader in online ticket sales for athletics, theatre, music, and arts programs across America.

Thiel College hosted presidents from five Lutheran colleges and NECU’s top executive

Thiel College welcomed higher education leaders as it hosted the annual Presidents’ Summer Seminar from August 7–9. The event, organized by the Network of ELCA Colleges and Universities, brought together presidents from six Lutheran colleges and universities, along with the executive director of NECU, Lamont Wells.

Thiel College first-year student food drive looks to bring total to 10 tons of food collected

On Sunday, August 27, first-year students at Thiel College will be holding the fifth annual community food drive in the morning to benefit Greenville’s Good Shepherd and Salvation Army food pantries.

Campus community gathers to hear Heisman presentation

Cuyler (Butch) Berwanger, the son of Heisman Trophy icon John Jacob (Jay) Berwanger, spoke to the football team and other members of the campus community on Tuesday, Aug. 15 during a special event in Bly Hall of the Academic Center

Cuyler (Butch) Berwanger discussed his father’s life as a football pioneer. Jay Berwanger was the first-ever recipient of the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 1935 and in 1936 became the first pick during the inaugural National Football League draft. The public is invited to this free event. History enthusiasts and members of the regional football and athletics community will join the coaches and players of the Thiel football team and members of the Blue-Gold booster organization at the event.

AD Fautas joining Hauser for a ‘Zooming from the Archives’ event

Athletic Director Jason Fautas will be the special guest of archivist John Hauser ’71, H’20 a part of Hauser’s Zooming from the TC Archives at noon Sept. 6. Fautas will discuss Thiel athletics.

In the past, some of the topics discussed on "Zooming from the Archives" have included Vice President for Academic Affairs Greg Q. Butcher, Ph.D. talking about the graduate programs, veteran’s liaison Mike Mason talking about the veterans' programs, Robert Olson, Ph.D. ’60 H’09 recalling his roles as a student, professor, dean and president, and assistant dean for student engagement Than Oo discussing student activities.

All-Campus retreat is Tuesday

The All-Campus Retreat is from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, August 22.

Employees celebrating service milestones in 5-year increments will be recognized and new members of the campus community will be introduced. The retreat highlight additional topics from the Aug. 3 update from President Susan Traverso, Ph.D. In addition, Vice President Greg Q. Butcher, Ph.D. will be sharing an overview of the renovation plans for the Daniel and Dorothy Spence Academic Center, including details on Phase I of this multi-year project, scheduled to begin at the end of the spring semester.

The schedule for the morning will also include three “break-out sessions” to provide an opportunity for active participation and exchange of ideas. These sessions will focus on the new undergraduate and graduate students joining the Thiel community this year, the exciting career and graduate school success of recent graduates, and the new strategic plan for Thiel Athletics.

Following the retreat, there will be a buffet luncheon in the carpeted area of the TC Café for those faculty and staff who would like to participate.

Second Excel session underway

The first group of Excel students (left) began in late July and completed their two-week program recently. The second Excel cohort (right) began Aug. 12.

The Excel program for first-year students is designed to jumpstart a student’s college experience. The unique, immersive learning opportunity allows students to experience college-level work while preparing for some of the challenges that students typically encounter during their first year of college.

The DocuCenter will be closed Friday, Sept. 1 through Monday, Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5.
