Brian Warning ’11 was the featured speaker at the March 16 Ruth A. Miller Senior Business Seminar. He is an account executive/sales team leader with Total Quality Logistics in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to discussing career and family-related topics, Warning shared why he chose Thiel and how he found his way into a challenging and rewarding career in logistics.
“Our speaker for tonight’s lecture was Brian Warning, who is a 2011 graduate of Thiel College. He is originally from Columbus, Ohio and chose Thiel due to baseball and how he wanted to be different from everyone else going to those big schools.” Trey Williams ’22
“Brian graduated, he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, but he knew he wanted to coach baseball. After a little time passed, Brian got a call from Coach Schaly, Thiel’s head baseball coach, offering him an assistant position, which he gladly accepted. Brian went on his path of coaching baseball, he coached at Thiel, then Lake Erie College and got his MBA while there, then John Carroll, and the last school he coached at was a community college.” Emily Sears ’22
“Brian spoke a lot about his times as a baseball coach at many places including Thiel and his other job endeavors like a mattress salesman and insurance salesman, which ultimately guided him to his current career path.” Dan Myers ’22
“He then described to us how hard it was for him to walk away from coaching, but it was time for this to happen. He needed a respectable job to support his wife and future family.” Maddison Neely ’22
“He worked many jobs until he found what he was looking for. Brian is now currently working at Total Quality Logistics. TQL is the leading third-party logistics company in the country. Brian got promoted to team leader the day before he talked to us.” John Retton ’22
“He told us it’s okay to take a job and try it and then move onto something else. Not everything is going to be a perfect fit for you which is why you need to never lose sight of who you are when working and accepting a job.” Madeline DePalma ’22
“Brian talked about how he ran into some difficult times where life was not going the way he wanted it to go, and he said that was okay because he still learned something from those times.” Brycen Dorfmeister ’23
“He noted that many of the hardships we go through as people are what help us find where we need to be. He gave a very heartfelt example of this in his life. It was very eye-opening to see how special the life we have is and not to take it for granted.” Kate Sollers ’22
“Brian explained how important it is to be a provider and I took this with me from the presentation.” Logan Long ’22
“Brian spoke of how task-oriented he was, he knew what needed to be done and he completed it. He also took things learned from other experiences and applied them to his new opportunities.” Abigail Cico ’22
“The most important thing I learned from Brian tonight was when he said that we are not defined by our jobs. He spoke about that and explained how many people believe they are what their career is, but that is not the case. I hope that I can remember Brian’s words on that idea in the future as I start my career.” Brycen Dorfmeister ’23
“As he is in the same field I intend to enter after graduation, it was interesting to hear his story. I really liked what he had to say about the supply chain and the importance of it. Products are always going to need shipped, someone has to be the one to solve problems to get items from point A to point B, and he is one of those people.” Kate Sollers ’22
“I learned a lot from Brian that I hope to use in my career within logistics.” Richard Crooks ’22
“In conclusion, I really liked Brian Warning and his speech that he gave us because you can see that he had some rough patches in his career and from where he started to now shows that he is motivated and that he never gave up.” Alrick Francis ‘22
