Virginia Beach senior wins full scholarship to Thiel College worth $141,000

Green Run High School senior James Cromwell-Young, of Virginia Beach, Va., was awarded an academic scholarship worth $141,000 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

Athletic event attendance policy updated

Students, faculty and staff members are permitted to attend Thiel College indoor athletic events.

Spectators from visiting teams and the community are not permitted to attend athletic competitions through January 30. Thiel College will continue to assess the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on spectator attendance.

Thiel College students, faculty, and staff who would like to attend indoor on-campus games should have their Thiel ID on hand. The use of a face covering over the nose and mouth is required in all Thiel College campus buildings, including Beeghly Gymnasium.

The Paul Bush ’66 Memorial Fitness Center remains open to Thiel College students, faculty, and staff, as well as family of faculty and staff. Beginning Monday, January 17, proper ID will be required for all of those who are permitted to use the facility. Proper masking guidelines remain in place for the facility, unless actively engaged in exercise.

Important vaccination information for employees

The College urges all eligible employees to get a vaccinated or a COVID-19 booster by March 1, 2022, to ensure fully-vaccinated status.

All employees who are not fully vaccinated should consult with their medical provider about the importance of getting the vaccine/booster. 

All employees who have received the vaccine or booster and do not have their vaccine card on file with Human Resources must submit that information using the following link https://thielcollege.wufoo.com/forms/x1jioqmv1r8qf7m/

Walberg Family Pharmacies will be providing an on-campus vaccine clinic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 in Weyers Lounge.

Science Instructor of the Year balloting underway

Vote on one of the Science nominated by Thiel College students. The first round of voting ends February 11. A second round of voting will resume with our semifinalists from Feb. 18 to March 18. The winner of the award will be announced during a presentation in the new Science Connector addition at Thiel College on March 25.

The big dig after the big storm

Thiel College student-athletes shovel the snow off the Rissell-Schreyer Dome that was deflated following the winter storm that hit the area Sunday and Monday. The storm dumped an average of 11 inches of snow across Mercer County according to the National Weather Service.

4th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Awards nominations have been extended

Nominations for the Thiel College Martin Luther King Jr. Awards have been extended. 

Categories include student service faculty/staff service and community and alumni service. Disregard date deadlines on online form.

Thiel College says farewell to:

Wellness Committee Challenge

The Wellness Committee sponsoring a 50/50 Employee Wellness Challenge. 

To enter, select a specific goal and commit to working on this goal over a 6-week period, beginning January 24 and ending March 4. An entrance fee of $20 along with the completed bottom portion of the form can be returned to Jackie Kytchak in the Student Life Office.

A winner will be randomly selected from all the participants at the completion of the 6-week challenge period. The winner will receive half of the money collected, and the other half of the money will benefit the American Heart Association. 

Wellness goals can be related to physical health, emotional health, fitness, or nutrition. Here are some examples of goals, but feel free to create your own:

Thiel College independent retirement plan advisors Will Ferguson and Jack Ryan from HB Retirement are hosting virtual office hours.

Many services are available, including STI testing, contraception, gynecology, family planning, reproductive care, preventive services, TB screening, diabetes & cholesterol screening and tobacco cessation as well as flu shots, COVID-19 shots, Hepatitis A&B, MMR, pneumonia and tetanus.

Communications collateral

Employees should update the logos used on institutional materials, including email signatures, letterhead, PowerPoint slides, etc. 

Thiel College has used the shield and wordmark combination as the official institutional logo for more than a year. They are the only approved logo for academic co-curricular and institutional use. Additional athletic logo packages are also available.

Email signatures, brand resources, and a job request form are all available online. A Dropbox folder has been set up with instructions and the materials necessary to create new email signatures. Employees can find other Thiel College-branded resources including letterhead, logos and PowerPoint slides in the same folder.

Thiel College community members who need help with communications and marketing initiatives and collateral can now request those services with a job form. The request form is available on the communications and marketing webpage or linked directly below.
