Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania, joined 18 other regional colleges and universities signing on as members of The Pittsburgh Promise’s Preferred College Partner program on Wednesday.

Hundreds of regional high school students expected at Mercer County College Fair

About 700 regional high school students are expected to attend the Mercer County Guidance Counselors College Fair and Career Day from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at Thiel College.

College partnering with TV station to highlight achievements of high school student-athletes

Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwestern Pennsylvania, and a Youngstown television station have partnered on a program that recognizes area scholastic student-athletes with an athlete of the week program.

Full slate of activities set for Homecoming 2017

During Homecoming 2017, the new science connector and track and field facility will be dedicated. Both dedications are Saturday, Oct. 14. The track and field ceremony will culminate with a 5K fun run and walk that will signify the first official College event on the track. 

Activities are scheduled throughout the weekend, but will begin with National Thiel Spirit Day, a social media campaign and contest, on Oct. 12 as alumni take pictures in their favorite Thiel gear and share them online with the hashtag #TCproud.

Homecoming 2017 campus events kick off Oct. 13 with alumni registration and hospitality.

Healthy recipe bake-off contest

Faculty and staff are invited to showcase their favorite healthy recipes from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 in Weyers Lounge of the Howard Miller Student Center. The categories are broken down into appetizers/soups, entrees, and desserts. The committee asks that anyone who would like to sample the recipes donate $1 at the door. Proceeds will be applied to the funds raised by the Thiel College team attending the Heart Walk on Oct. 19. The votes will be tallied up and the winner of each category will be announced after 1:30 p.m. that same day.

Faculty presentations highlight second Thiel Forum

The second Thiel Forum of the academic year is at 4 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Stamm Lecture Hall of the James Pedas Communication Center.

Departments Fair looks to connect students to program information

The Academic Departments Fair is from noon to 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center. Games, prizes and refreshments will be available. The fair is a chance to learn about Thiel’s academic programs. More information about requirements for majors and minors, fulfilling the core curriculum, support services and career options will be available.

Thiel College welcomes ...

Flu Shot Clinic

The Thiel College Human Resource office announces this year's Flu Shot Clinic is from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 10 in the Rudisill Room of the Howard Miller Student Center. Participants should bring their insurance card to participate.

BC/BS Highmark Insurance will cover 100 percent of the cost, but employees with other insurance should check with their provider first.

Pie a Professor
Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Terrace, Howard Miller Student Center

The Tri-Beta biology honors society will host a "Pie a Professor" fundraiser. For $2, participants will be able to throw a whipped cream pie or a specialty pie at Delbert Abi Abdallah, Ph.D.; Greg Butcher, Ph.D.; Chris Fonner, Ph.D.; and Anna Reinsel, Ph.D. ’06.

Glow in the Dark Party
Saturday at 10 p.m.
Glen Johnson Community Center

Join the members of the Organization of Black Collegians for a special party! The theme is glow in the dark and rep your team. The event is open to all Thiel students.

Thiel Fortnightly Club Autumn Fest
Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
1111 Rutledge Road, Transfer, Pa.

Thiel employees and their families are invited for soup, autumn treats and good company. Guests are asked to bring a dessert or side dish and their own beverages. Mulled wine and apple cider will be available. A $2 per adult participation fee will be donated to the Fortnightly Scholarship Fund and be used to offset the cost of the party. The party will be held in a barn. Guests are asked to dress accordingly. If weather permits, a bonfire will be held.

Academic Visit Day
Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Prospective students will be on campus to learn about Thiel College’s academic programs. Visitors will also sit in on a class, talk to students and attend an Academic Department Fair.

Worship on Wednesday is offered for the entire Thiel College community during the semester. We gather each week for hymns, prayers, a message and Holy Communion. All are welcome!

Tomcat Tributes are designed to recognize the teamwork Thiel College employees exhibit each day. Employees can nominate co-workers for recognition in four categories (Random Act of Kindness, Going the Extra Mile, Had a Great Idea, Just Because).
