Eight trees along Route 18 being cut down as safety precaution

Penn Power is removing eight ash trees bordering Route 18 northbound and Thiel College’s property.  The trees have symptoms of the emerald ash borer and will most likely be dead within two years, according to Director of Facilities Mike Shultz. Penn Power is requesting these trees be removed because of their proximity to the power lines along College Avenue.

Work began this morning.

Shultz said the trees will be replaced this summer and additional trees are scheduled to be planted around campus.
