GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announced it will be expanding its speech-language pathology master’s degree program when it adds a new spring cohort of students with classes starting January 17, 2024. This will be the first time since the program’s origin in May 2020 that a second cohort will be offered within the same calendar year.

The College indicated that it is continuing to review applications. Interested students are encouraged to apply through CSDCAS and will be considered provided they can be fully admitted by December 31.

“The success of the graduate speech-language pathology program at Thiel has been remarkable,” SLP Program Director, Professor and Department Chair of Communication Sciences and Disorders Mary Beth Mason, Ph.D. said. “Thiel’s distinctive program provides students experiential learning opportunities through lab experiences embedded in academic courses, multiple on-campus clinical practicums at the Thiel College Center for Speech-Language Services, and externship. The benefits of hands-on training are reflected in the tremendous outcomes demonstrated by the first three graduate cohorts.”

Thiel’s program received its accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association one year ahead of schedule in August 2023. The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology Program at Thiel is designed to provide both the scientific and cultural foundations of human communication, disorders, and differences. It is also designed to apply practice through experiential learning during classes and clinical practicum experiences each semester. Thiel also offers a dual Bachelor of Science/Master of Science degree that begins with a communication sciences and disorders undergraduate degree.

The Speech-Language Pathology Program is the first graduate program in Thiel’s 158-year history to receive full external accreditation. In addition, the program’s reported pass rate for the Praxis exam for the program’s last two cohorts is 100 percent. The program launched in 2020 and has had 100 percent career placement for its past two graduating classes.
