GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Thiel Players opens its production of “The Government Inspector” this weekend in the William A. Robinson Theater.

“The Government Inspector” was written by Nikolai Gogol and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, and is a satire of small-town corruption and self-deception. When the locals in a small town in Russia learn that an undercover government inspector is coming for a surprise visit, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the village spiraling into a world of panic and greed.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Apr. 1, 2, and 9 and 2 p.m. on Apr. 3, 9, and 10. The William A. Robinson Theater is located behind the William A. Passavant Memorial Center on campus.

The production is free and open to the public, but due to the limited seating at Robinson Theater, anyone planning on attending should reserve tickets online.

Thiel College Director of Theatre JK Rogers, Ph.D. said the play is based in 1840s Russia but that there are parallels to modern themes. She also said production for the show began before Russia invaded Ukraine.
