GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Thiel College Office of Communications and Marketing earned two Gold awards this spring in the national Collegiate Advertising Awards competition for its 2024 Tomcats football schedule and its internal staff newsletter T-Notes.

The football schedule poster was a print item that also had digital applications. It included design elements from the Energize campaign that won significant awards in 2023. The staff newsletter is a weekly digital communication with staff, faculty and friends of the College. It includes news and updates for the campus community.

The Collegiate Advertising Awards program is a national competition that honors the most talented marketing professionals for outstanding work in advertising, marketing and promotion specific to higher education. Colleges and universities compete against similarly sized institutions across a wide range of categories, including branding, social media, recruiting, fundraising, blogs, and multimedia campaigns.

Entries are judged by a panel of industry professionals based on creativity, layout and design, typography, production, quality and overall effectiveness. Awards are presented in Gold, Silver and Bronze, with Judge’s Choice honors given to top scoring entries that receive perfect marks.

In addition to the national recognition this year, Thiel College was awarded a Silver designation in 2024 for its athletics communication outreach campaign, Energize, by The College and University Public Relations and Associated Professionals.

The Energize campaign, developed in collaboration with the Department of Athletics, featured the Tomcat Playbook—a comprehensive promotional piece profiling all 24 varsity sports at the College. Each profile included information about coaching staff, athlete testimonials, historical accomplishments, campus facilities and general athletics information.

“Awards and recognition from outside organizations showcase the strength of collaboration and the high level of creativity within our team,” Vice President for Communications and Marketing Richard Orr said.

The significant work of student project coordinator Kelly Clark ’23 help make the Energize campaign possible, Orr said.

This year’s recognition continues the strong recent run by The Thiel College Office of Communications and Marketing. It has received recognition from CUPRAP seven times in the past 10 years. In 2023, the office earned three Gold and two Silver awards from the Collegiate Advertising Awards, Educational Advertising Awards and CUPRAP for its content and campaign work.
